I'm driving to Houston Friday morning for an appointment with Brian Gavin to evaluate my diamond for a recut - I'm so excited!! I have a 2.23 ct center that leaks light and sparkles "most" of the time but not all of the time. It is not H&A and does not have a good certificate (GSI via Jared - we bought it before I discovered PS). My goals are to strive for H&A, reflect light better, improve performance, and then send it to AGS or GIA afterward for certification. I hope to also keep the weight above 2 ct but will do what needs to be done... Fingers crossed that it's a good candidate for a recut!

I've seen the magic other PSers have posted regarding his recuts so I have high hopes.

How exciting! I hope that everything works out for the best with your recut.

We are going to the Dallas area this summer to visit with family and I keep trying to think of a plausible reason that will convince hubby that we need to take the 4 hour drive to Houston. Maybe I should start planning the Houston trip around a big anniversary.

See if you can be a jewelry model for the day! That would be fun!

I have only spoken with Jamie and Lesley and they were wonderful. How great to be able to meet everyone in person!

Great idea about hand modeling! I'll def ask if they have time to indulge me. :appl:

Good luck! I hope it is a candidate for a recut. :appl:

Btw, I love the hand modeling idea! Surely you can find a few items to model so we can all appreciate your trip to BGD! :naughty: :wavey:

That is so exciting! I loved working with Brian Gavin Diamonds and I am jealous that you get to go there in person and meet everyone. Have a great trip and good luck with your recut. Please share pictures with us.

I'm in the waiting room while they're performing surgery to remove the center from the halo. They may have to cut it straight down the middle like cutting into the middle of a watermelon... Then he'll do an evaluation by computer and mock up what changes he can do. 30 minutes can't go fast enough for my impatient self. And Mr. Gavin is soo nice!

Their office is inside a business bldg and doesn't have a showroom or display case so no jewelry pics for now:

As an aside, I also brought a 1/3 ct round diamond to have reset into their Barbara bezel, sample pic below. Doubt it goes home with me today but fingers crossed!!

Wow, this is exciting, hope the stone is a good candidate for a recut, fingers crossed! And I love the pendant!

Wow! What a meeting! I'm a candidate for a recut so I left my baby with him. They were able to salvage my setting too (maybe for a CS?).

I did a little hand modeling, which I'll post in a new thread later bc I have a 3 hr car drive ahead of me, but most of our three hour mtg was about diamond education and small talk about cars, handbags, higher education, etc. Brian is so likable!

I'll post a recut update in 4-8 weeks with pics!

Very exciting! Some of the make overs we've seen are just incredible! Cant want to see yours!

Wonderful! can't wait to see it! the recuts I've seen here are remarkable!

That is so exciting! Did he give you any idea of how much weight the stone will lose?

Ugh yes. I have a feather in an area that could prevent Brian from adjusting the crown like he wants (thus reducing the weight lost) but the diamond could end up with a weight of 1.90. Brian is going to try to keep it around 1.95 - 2.02+ but I told him good performance is my #1 goal so he should do what's best. We are striving for an AGS 000 certificate.

Sundial, rockinruby, crystal24k - I'll try to get the ring pics online tonight. I only took a few because I fell in love with one that took the rest of my attention away.

Junebug, tyty333, tekate - thanks!

If you are going to do a recut, might as well end up with the best possible cut. I'm sure the weight loss will be made up in beautiful sparkle. I hope he is able to keep it above the 2 ct. mark though!

Lol, I love the waiting room pic. I can just imagine being nervous waiting to hear one way or the other!

Sounds like you got great news and seems a good choice to go for the best recut possible. Hopefully they can keep it close to 2ct. Can't wait to see photos in several weeks plus I'm very interested to hear how you like the Barbara setting. Congrats! :appl:

Thank you for posting all the great eye candy pics too! :wavey:
