So, like so many other people on this forum, I found Pricescope randomly through a Google search. I've been a lurker for a while now ! My boyfriend and I had discussed getting married a few times and once he got a promotion at work, he was ready to start looking at rings. He's such a nice guy that I could see him getting sucked in by a store salesperson and being sold anything! So, I researched on Pricescope and changed my mind a *few* times :saint: about what I really wanted. We also looked at stores around us, but the selection was limited and the prices were (I felt) high. I figured for his money it'd be best to get the biggest bang for his buck! :D When we looked around, I realized I wasn't really all that color sensitive, and figured that we (he! ;) ) could take advantage of that and buy a bigger stone with a lower color, since I am tall and wear a size 8ish ring.

I read some posts on here about Brian Gavin's Blue selection and ended up stalking a 1.23ct L color almost obsessively! (It went on and off their site a few times, much to my dismay!). I blabbered about how since it was so well cut it would sparkle so well (his eyes glazed over during many a dissertation of mine!), but didn't really have anything to compare it to except some Hearts on Fire stones we drove a couple of hours to go see (talk about expensive...!).

Long story short, he bought the stone, chose the setting, and a couple of months later, proposed where we met (a laundromat, of all places!) and I am thrilled! Even the melee stones sparkle fabulously and I can't stop staring at the ring! I love the milgrain detail on the setting, since it gives it a bit of an antique-y vibe and (I think) a touch more sparkle! I do notice the color in some instances, and definitely from the side, and find that it's exacerbated in and around yellow or less white situations (like in my kitchen that has yellow walls). And the strong blue fluorescence is perhaps one of the neatest things I've seen!

I only have a few pictures I'd taken this weekend, since BGD didn't send him any glamour shots?

Thanks to everyone on this forum for helping educate me so we could make an informed decision about such a large purchase! :wavey:

Miss Stepcut: I never noticed before how brown it looked in that picture! The report doesn't say anything about a brown modifier; does AGS not list that stuff? Or is it possible it's just the combination of odd lighting, my old point-and-shoot, and the brown hallway I took it in? I don't notice it taking on that shade when I'm wearing it, most of the time it's just white and sparkly. If it had a brown modifier, would it look like that picture frequently on my hand?

Re: I'm engaged! Brian Gavin Blue in sleek micro pave milgra

Its beautiful...the color could be the brown hallway you took it in. I have never seen any pictures of L's that look that color
so I imagine its reflecting the hallway.

Congratulations on your engagement!!!

Re: I'm engaged! Brian Gavin Blue in sleek micro pave milgra

Congrats on your engagement!!

I know if the colour letter grade is assigned due to brown instead of the usual yellow GIA will notate that on the report... I assume AGS would do the same? I would guess in that particular photo it's just the pic, though - I've got photos of my J doing exactly the same thing :))

Oh yeah, for sure. It was probably just reflecting something back. I've just never seen anything like that... dramatically white in one pic, dramatically dark in another. It's a chameleon diamond!

Littleriver - I know! What's so bizarre is that my brother had been up the night before and told me that my grandma had said to him that she thought that's what he would do...what are the odds!

Thank you so much to everyone for all of your kind words! Leslie saw my post and sent me the glamour shots and I wanted to make sure I posted them since she went through the trouble to make sure we had them! I really can't thank Brian and Leslie enough for all of their hard work; I totally understand all of the frustrations in the posts now about not being able to accurately capture diamonds in photographs! I feel like the few pictures I posted don't even come CLOSE to doing this justice.

Now I just have to figure out what to do for a wedding band...any suggestions?
