I''m about to buy a diamond. Please tell me if I really am having a good deal or if I can do better.

I am about to purchase a diamond. My friend is helping me get the best deal in the market. I really just need to know if I am really getting a good deal. Please help!

Choices are:
1. Cushion 4.72 VS2 G $12,300.00 PC/ GIA Cert total $58,000.00

2.Cushion 6.08 VS1 I $7900.00 PC/GIA Cert total $48,000.00 Best Value

3.Radiant 5.00 VVS2 H $ 9,200.00 PC/ GIA Cert total $46,000.00

4.Emerald 5.03 VS1 I $9300.00 PC/GIA Cert total $ 47,000.00

5. Oval 5.01 best I could find in the price range VS2 I $8900.00 PC/EGL Cert total $44589.00

I''m really considering getting the cushion cut with this attached setting. I can get the whole ring no more than 51K with any of this stone. Is this a deal or am I getting screwed in a way. Please help.

One more thing, my girlfriend is a big celine dion fan and goes to see her show every year in las vegas. We are going to vegas next month to see her last show and I would like to give her the ring then. Do you guys think it will be possible to make this happen with a little help with the people from the show? I know it sounds impossible but worth the try.

I don''t know about the pricing, but you''re looking at some gorgeous (huge) stones... do you know what shape your girlfriend prefers? With your budget, I''d say you could get her exactly what she wants.

Thanks for the reply. I did try to ask her but she really didn''t tell me exactly want she likes the best. But it seems she was more awestruck when she saw the cushion cut ring we saw on a magazine. I''d love to ask her straight up but I really don''t want to give it away.

You can''t go wrong with a cushion!!! They''re classic and that setting is gorgeous.

you can get the first cushion for 48,000. but it has a table of 70.

second cushion for 42,000.

fifth stone for 38.000

your friend isn't getting the best prices.

Also, you might want to double check to see if those are really GIA certs on the diamonds, and not EGL.

If you''re serious about cushions, you should talk with Mark T at Engagement Rings Direct. I haven''t worked with him but he is known as THE cushion guy around here. Cushions are very hard to buy sight-unseen, so it''s good to have an experienced person looking for you. In that price range, I''m sure you can find an amazing stone!

He has great prices and a fantastic eye for cushions in particular, but honestly, I have never seen a dog diamond of any kind come out of his shop...

That being said, we can''t really tell anything about cushions by the numbers. So you really need to see it in person OR have someone like Mark picking one out for you.

Do yourself a favor and CALL HIM!!!

Absolutely and ditto everything by NF! You have a wonderful budget, let an expert such as Mark help you find a diamond worthy of it!!!

I would agree. You can''t buy a 4-5 carat cushion unseen. That could be a disaster! You want a beautiful cushion! I''d also talk to Mark at ERD because he can also make beautiful custom settings. That is a Tiffany setting you have pictured, so you''ll have to have the setting custom made unless you buy the whole ring there.

I''m beginning to wonder about all these "friends" and "friends of the family" who supposedly find these great deals, however.
