Hey guys,

This past weekend I went to go shopping for a round diamond, and I was wondering if I could get some help from you guys. I will really appreciate your opinions and advice on this.

So I need help choosing between these two diamonds since these were the only one''s in my budget that they had.

Diamond #1

Round GIA report
Measurements: 7.63 - 7.74 x 4.45 mm
Carat Weight: 1.57
Color Grade: K
Clarity Grade: VS2
Cut Grade: Good

Proportions:
Depth: 57.9 %
Table: 59 %
Crown Angle: 30.5°
Crown Height: 12.5 %
Pavilion Angle: 40.6°
Pavilion Depth: 43 %
Star length: 45 %
Lower Half: 80 %
Girdle: Very Thin to Medium, Faceted
Culet: Very Small

Finish:
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: Faint

This Diamond was my favorite. I was worry about the color but when the sales rep compared it with a similar size and color of "I'' it was almost the same. She even said maybe the GIA made a mistake on grading this diamond. She is some sort of GIA graduate and said would colored it a "J".

Diamond #2
Measurements: 7.34 - 7.39 x 4.49 mm
Carat Weight: 1.52
Color Grade: I
Clarity Grade: SI2
Cut Grade: Excellent
Proportions:
Depth: 61.0 %
Table: 59 %
Crown Angle: 35.5°
Crown Height: 14.5 %
Pavilion Angle: 40.6°
Pavilion Depth: 43 %
Star length: 55 %
Lower Half: 80 %
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick, Faceted
Culet: None

Finish:
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: None

This was another good Diamond but there was some white spot in the middle that I was disappointed. But the measurements looks good, I think. When I saw both diamonds I liked diamond #1 probable because it looked way bigger almost to a 1 3/4ct because she brought it out one with that size. So I thought I was getting a bargain and they are both the same price at around 8700. What do you guys think? I will really appreciate you guys opinion.
Thanks.

Well, the first diamond gets this score on the HCA:

Diamond 1
Light Return: Good
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Excellent
Spread or diameter for weight: Excellent
Total Visual Performance 2.1 - Very Good - Worth buying if the price is right

The second diamond gets this score on the HCA:

Diamond 2
Light Return: Very Good
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Very Good
Spread or diameter for weight: Very Good
Total Visual Performance 1.7 - Excellent within TIC range

So it looks like diamond 2 is a better performer, which makes sense given its better cut grade, but I would not be happy at all with a stone with visible inclusions. The first stone is okay IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT... but I am not sure it is right!

If I were you I wouldn't get either and would go for this one instead. GOG has great customer service, sells stones with killer optics, this one is the same size as diamond number 1 but with much better numbers AND it is almost $1000 less expensive if you use bank wire! Check if it's eye clean.

I also dig this and this, but they are a little smaller than the ones you are considering, though they are also less expensive and will be gorgeous!!

Welcome!

I would personally pass on the first diamond, it has a shallow crown angle and also a very thin area of the girdle, so it is possible the diamond could be more prone to chipping. If you really want this one, then I would suggest you get a independant appraiser to check the diamond out for this reason. I prefer the proportions of the second diamond, but as you say you can see a visible inclusion, I would again suggest looking for more stones, you could make it a little easier perhaps by looking at AGS0 and GIA Excellent cut grade, then evaluating each diamond from there.

That is a beautiful diamond DD posted, would buying online be an option for you?
