Hey all, i''ve been reading through some of your posts and realized how helpful people on here can be, and i''m very impressed.
I''m trying to narrow down exactly what i''m looking for for an engagement ring and my girlfriend hasn''t been a whole lot of help.
I have the diamond itself picked out....''almost picked out''...either a square h&a, princess of hearts, or jubilee cut...between .75 - 1.1 ct....she said she liked ''square'' shape...i''m pretty sold on getting it from goodoldgold, i like their site and reputation. Whiteflash doesnt seem to have the ''high quality'' square cuts available online....in comparison with gog.

Anyways....the reason i''m posting and looking for help is the setting. My GF likes the engraved...antique look and i have 2 good examples.
1....D.Vatche x-prong engraved filigree..... here''s some good pics.... http://www.diamondvues.com/2006/04/x_prong_custom.html
a bit pricey, but i do like it, and i think that''s her style.
2.... http://www.vancraeynest.com/chased.html .... the ''488'' style on that link. i like this alot also.

I have no idea what the price of #2 is, the price of #1 is about $2400 in platinum. Platinum & solitaire is the way i''m going to go.
Any other suggestions/opinions on where I could get settings like these or comparable? Any opinion on these settings themselves?

I''d like to keep the setting in the $1000-$2000 price range, but i''ll go a little higher if i have to.

Thanks in advance for you help/opinions/suggestions.

Van Craeynest is to die for...

THe prices are probably about the same? Other posters will probably have a better idea.

That style of Van Craeynest is shown in yellow gold. I take it, it can be ordered in platinum since that's what you're looking for? I like that one better.

Let me add to this a little more. I like the Van Craeynest design(engraving of flowers) alot more than the Vatche, but i like the xprong style and the side view of the Vatche a whole lot more than the VC.
My girlfriend is a florist and mentioned that she didnt want the center stone sitting too high because she works with her hands alot and doesnt want it getting caught on things or getting in the way, does the Vatche look like it sets the center diamond too high?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Eric

If she''s a florist, getting things caught may be a little unavoidable. Lots of people work with their hands, but florist seems to be more hands-on than nurse, less hands-on than pottery.

Both are pretty low. The Vatche is not actually a low setting, but the design creates fewer sharp edges.

Thanks for the responses i appreciate it.
Neatfreak....i''ve respected your posts that i''ve read in the past, you have good ideas and comparable taste, what is your opinion of the 2 settings mentioned and any other ideas on similar settings?
Anybody else? I''m in need of help deciding on this setting, and i''ll be making the purchase in the near future.

The VC is very popular around here, but both are just beautiful!!

Aww well thank you! I have to say I am a HUGE fan of the VC. It is just such a unique ring in real life, and their craftsmanship is stunning. Not to say that the x-prong isn''t nice, but it is much more run of the mill.
