Not my cup of tea. Seems to be done more to show what technical stuff they can do, rather than as an elegant ring somebody would wear.

Re: Illoura: Winner 2013 Fancy colour category Diamond guild

That is what i thought.
To spend that kind of time and money to show technical skill to make pieces that is not wearable?
will definitely sit as a showpiece that is for sure.

No. :errrr:

Re: Illoura: Winner 2013 Fancy colour category Diamond guild

I appreciate the workmanship that went into it ....

... But I really want to add a bunch of tiny carousel horses.

Just me?

Yes, that is what is missing!!!!you should be in the design team! A couple of horses- now to keep in the theme- pink horses, maybe unicorns, even??? Blue and yellow horses.

The first thing I thought of was a Ferris Wheel.

Seriously? My first thought was a ferris wheel too.

I'll be the odd-man out and admit that I love this ring. It's a beautiful display of craftsmanship, obviously, but all that side it's different and I appreciate that. I'd wear a ring like this (although I'm not sure it's made to be worn :/) to the right event. It's not an all-the-time piece, but it's darn pretty.

Not my cup of tea either, too showy/flashy and open.

However, it is very original, therefore, deserves to be a winner.

DK :))

You know, DK, I disagree that it deserves a win -- only if the competition was dismal. Many jewelers manage to make much more difficult & intricate pieces that are also beautiful & that anyone would feel privileged to wear. In my book, this doesn't qualify -- a jeweler aspiring for excellence must be able to deliver lovely, wearable design in addition to technical expertise.

And my first thought was - does that center wheel (the rose gold with pink stones one) spin?

But now that y'all mention it, it does kind of look like a ferris wheel!

That said, it's not my cup of tea but I'd love to see it in proportion, on a hand. It looks like it would be a fun ring to wear.

ETA Heartless me - I'd probably like it at least 50% more without the little hearts!

I thought it was a crown, perfect engagement ring for Kate middletons new son to give his eventual princess!

Re: Illoura: Winner 2013 Fancy colour category Diamond guild

I think it would look fantastic on the right wearer. It reminds me of a fascinator for the hand. Carousel is also accurate. ;))

So, either Mariah Carey or Princess Beatrice of York could pull it off.
