Ilana shape diamond?

I am looking at this diamond ring and have never heard of this shape. I am really interested in it. I have searched and cannot find it anywhere....

Does anyone have any info on this?

the ''ilana cut'' is referring (basically) to the added facets and their arrangement that make it different from other squares.
so, have you seen it in person?

No I haven''t seen it in person. I thought it was pretty, but not sure of the worth and had never heard of it. I have always been partial to round cut and I don''t want to be disappointed. Does this shape usual have the sparkle of a round?

From the grading does it look like a decent cut or not good... and an approx price?

there is no way to tell of the cut quality by the information that you have.
if you don''t want to be dissapointed, go with a well cut traditional round and not a fad cut with unknown quality. it''s not worth the risk.

That is all the info on the Appraisal. The appraisal is not as thorough, I guess, as a GIA...

I had an oval once and didn''t like it as much as a round so I guess I should stick to that.

I don't know anything about Illana (aside that it is not on the 130-ish strong list of diamond cut brands assembled by GIA - see it here), but from the stats posted a few things come out.

I am not expert - so don't take my word for it. If anything, these could be questions I would ask an appraiser about. Since you are going to see one anyway.. it can't hurt to ask (none I ever heard of charges by the question

).


Quick note about the branded diamond cuts: there are dozens of more or less obscure ones and few endure. Once the advertising fades... they are back into the pool of traditional cuts without further ado (e.g. the 'Royal' cuts that are no longer made and I keep finding being sold as 'marquise' and 'pear' or whatever the outline fits best). The price of these is a matter of branding, but does depend on the yield of the cut - or how much of the rough is wasted on average to obtain the respective shape...

Based on this little common sense, this one looks like a princess cut - and I would venture to say not the nicest princess cut that walked the Earth for at least two reasons: it is relatively smaller for the weight compared to traditional squares (radiant or princess cuts) judging from the diameter given, and the picture shows two features of the cut that make me wonder if this is a stone with good brilliance or no. For once - the table is very large which may or may not 'work' with the rest of the proportions but more often than not is bad news, and the facets on the crown appear very flat (small index variation form one another => less glitter or scintillation as it is called). This must have been a great way to save weight, but it is up to you to like or dislike the feature. Usually, this glitter / scintillation is appreciated and more is better - up to a point that seems higher than this diamond might have (with all the guesswork involved to coax such detail form a picture

). However, some modern cuts beg to differ - say, the Context cut (eight facets total) which happens to be my favorite.

After seeing those picture this is what I would be look for.

On top of it all: brilliance makes allot of the cut quality thing regardless of shape and number of facets etc. And this can be checked - either by experience (yours, having seen diamonds known to have great brilliance) or some simple visual aids like the Ideal Scope or ASSET. More sophisticated stuff exists, but these are a couple of the very few accessible to buyers. Perhaps no gimmick is ever going to be as good as good old experience viewing diamonds... but...

In the end... I should apologize for the unenthusiastic, skeptic tone of this. It wasn't meant to be... This is no better or worse than I'd write about any branded or unbranded cut. My own non-expert procedure of going about any diamond.

I hope it is not offensive and perhaps of some help...



PS. about the 10k evaluation. These are commonly inflated. The branded cut is not that popular, and even if it carries a premium, it is always a good move to ask 'why'. For ref, similar non-branded stones would be about 4-5k. Besides, what is 'Dia-lab' ? Perhaps their grades are dead on, perhaps not. It is more common to assume obscure certificates are less strict than the top paper (GIA, AGS, HRD and some).

Thanks for the info. After doing more research, it looks like Ilana may not be the cut name , but maybe Kristall Symphony.

Still not sure what the price should be on it. Asking price is $4000.

I actually saw one recently. It was pretty and it definitely hid more color and inclusions than the asscher I compared it to but it just wasn''t quite as sparkly as the rounds or square HOF Dream that I have seen. Pretty but not really spectacular. I have only seen one though, so maybe there are better ones out there. Good luck!
