Hi all, long time ago!
Here is my question.
For a diamond with following proportions, what kind of discount vs a same weighted AGS0 H&A should I expect?
I expect a big discount, because of the 3.01 that has the spread of a 2.8, so I think paying for the 3ct mark is not a good idea, and also because it is IGI Antwerp.
Thank you for your opinions, here are the stats:

Forgot to add: this is direct in Antwerp, so almost dealer price should apply.

Impossible question, Stephan.

As example, for the first stone, if the same color and clarity applies (which could be as IGI is relatively strict in its true reports), the IGI would approximately be 20 to 30% cheaper.

If however it is a low SI2 (read: I1 actually), it should go about 60% cheaper, more even if the color-grade also can be questioned.

Live long,

Hi Paul,
Long time no see!
Hope you are fine!
Your answer is great. :appl:
I'll try to see if the stones fit the grade.
For the first one, I will reject it if it is not eye clean or "prongable".
For the second one, I'll try to see if the diamond is grade to softly and match my price by applying what you've just learned me.
So +/- 25% is it seems to match the grade, more if the VVS looks like a VS or the L like a M.
I'll also look at it with my Idealscope.
Do you think IGI Antwerp is as good as IGI NY?
Kind Regards,
Stephan

Hi Stephan,

Hope that you are doing fine too.

Do not bother about the H-SI2. Knowing for what price I can buy that stone, it will not be a true SI2.

L-VVS? My opinion is that it is extremely difficult for labs to grade color consistently once it goes past J or K. Is it because they have less of such colors entering to be graded, or because there is less attention with them being lower cost?

As for your question about IGI, it is difficult to answer. IGI-NY has a very bad reputation because of a multitude of specific documents they produce mostly for mall-stores. That is what they are known for, specifically in the US. I find the Antwerp-lab rather strict and consistent, but have no idea even if IGI-NY produces a lot of true diamond grading-reports.

Thank you Paul, I'm fine too!
Interesting, you are very smart, you could find the diamond in a database without the report number!
So this leaves me with only one stone, the L-VVS, and its symmetry is only VG. :/
I would love to buy a H&A, but this would be an upgrade for another diamond of the same dealer, it's a 1.65ct K-VS2 HRD.
So I'm not free to choose another dealer.
My budget is 20.000 EUR for something bigger than 2.2ct.
Color I or lower.

This makes the dealer sounds not serious.
With my budget, he only has 2 diamonds to propose me.
Thanks Paul, I'll probably pass on the SI2 and I will be intransigent with the L-VVS...

I was going to suggest you ring up our associate Paul, but I see he has already entered into the thread and taken his normal excellent care of you.

I still remember quite fondly our lunch together in Antwerp with John and Paul and hope that in another year or two we can do it again.

Wink

I hope too, Wink!
It's a very good memory for me too!
I've checked Paul's inventory but nothing seems to fit my price/size conditions...
But his knowledge his inestimable!
