set an oval diamond with sapphire sidestones, would you go with 4 prongs or 6 prongs?

I understand 6 prongs are more secure, but it makes ovals look like marquises. And even if it''s set w/double 4 prongs, much of the edges are still exposed, making it more likely to get chipped, right?

Another question, would you use sapphire pears, ovals, or trillants as sidestones?

I was supposed to get a .76 rb set with sapphire sidestones a while back, but that project was never completed because the jeweler flaked out in the end, even though i had all the stones ready. He made me wait forever then ended up staying out of the country to do business. So back to the drawing board I come, still w/o a sapphire 3 stone. And that rb is still in a solitaire that''s 5 sizes too large so she needs a permanant home, but i''m thinking green sides for that one...

But I digress... this time I''m determined to get my sapphire 3 stone!

6 sapphire trillants or pears

Well I would set it like the one I posted in my thread "just for fun." Wow, that was a lovely ring. But since you want a three stone sapphire ring I think you can''t go wrong with 4 or 6 prong. I have been loving 6 prongs lately. For sidestones either would be wonderful.

I would set it with 6 prongs, unless it is a very skinny oval.

I would use pears or trill. Pears look very nice but are getting trendy on PS as sidestones. Now if you don''t mind riding the PS trend then go for pears.

I''m in the minority here, but I like the look of 4 prongs more than 6 on an oval. And pears for the sides.

I vote trilliants. Not sure about the prongs.

Definitely 4 prongs. Another good option would be 4 split prongs. I''d go for ovals, trilliants or pears.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 4 prong :) I love the it on my ring.... I have pear sapphires on the side of my round...

4 prongs....and I like the idea of side pears or trilliants.

I haven''t been around enough lately to notice to PS pear sidestone trend... but i really don''t mind. It''s not like i''ll see any of these rings in real life anyway!

Think i''m gonna go with the sapphire pears. Trillions just don''t sing to me.

My finger is 13.5mm across, think 5 x 3mm pears would be just right? The oval diamond is just a lil over 5.5mm wide, but with the sidestone angle, it should just about cover the entire width of my finger!
