Funny that my top is a brief desciption of my DH. He didn't love animals until I came along. He's not perfect but neither am I. Together we are the perfect combo.

Great timing for this! I was just thinking about my hospital stay last year (as we near the one year mark from that!) and had the thought that the trait that often frustrates me about DH is one of the things that was very helpful during that difficult week plus the weeks/months that followed. His ability to push emotion aside and deal with a situation really helped as I was going through countless tests and scheduled for surgery. He was able to use his phone to research possible options, get information about the surgery they were planning to do, confirm that I was in one of the top hospitals in the world for the surgery, keep track of all of the results/schedule/etc.

Sometimes the traits that seem least endearing are the ones we need the most!

Scandi, you made me laugh. My Mom tried this combo after my dad died. She thought she and her already elderly 2nd hubby would have « a few good years », but they were married 24 years and he almost outlived her.
He was a wonderful guy, so it was a great marriage.

ETA: I'd say my husband has all of the above PLUS good body/sex appeal (he's nearly 50 but has the body of a chiseled 25-year-old soccer player! Not fair...as I'm more, uh, matronly.). But he can be a little conditional or selective about when he's kind/compassionate. It's a point of contention for us sometimes, but I try to remember that he had a very rough childhood completely lacking in kindness/compassion, and that has had an effect on him.

I’m very lucky that my husband loves animals even half as much as I do. He grew up in a family that treated them like objects. If it causes trouble, you get rid of it. He turned out to be the most compassionate of animal lovers. He found one of our cats as a baby...locked up in a cat trap on a cold, rainy, winter day (the property owner was trying to catch the feral cats to get rid of them). He stopped working and brought her home. I never loved him more than I did in that moment.

smart, a great father, a sense of humor, diligent, grumpy, cheap at times, intelligent, brilliant, kind, pain in the ass etc. and I would say this only from my young years when one is dating, a compatible sex drive... sorry if I offended anyone.

Those that sound negative about my perfect partner are needed for me, I would not have saved as much as we did for retirement, I would have been a much worse 'helicopter' mother, I would slack off more.. we are ying and yang at times, but we complement each other so I lucked out the second time in a life partner.
