I'm discovering the coolest music from my student's list of songs they'd like me to teach them.

What would be on your list?
This is for songs, voice and guitar.

I welcome anything of any genre written in the last 500 years.
Sorry, but classical/opera are not on the menu.

ETA, at a coffee house what songs would you like to hear from one guy on voice and guitar.

The Wind by cat Stevens.

I'd love to play guitar, but after many tries, realized not my forte. First love is really banjo!

Can play melodica & piano, learning bongos now & having so much fun.

My daughter in Cali learning ukelele!

So to your question, this is my suggestion https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=puHoadtIivc

Oops ^ should have said Hotel California /Eagles/ 1977

Little Wing. God, I love that song

Morning has broken Cat Stevens

Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez. The guitar intro to that song is so exquisite - it gets me every time.

Oh, and Blackbird, of course!

Move With the Seasons by Temples (or anything from their album Sun Structures).

Fugitive Air by of Montreal - (or anything from Lousy With Sylvianbriar) I love the super, pretty chord progressions and Kevin is a lyrical genius.

Empyrean Abattoir, also by of Montreal (from their new record Aureate Gloom). This would strip down real nice for an acoustic version.

The whole album Phrazes for the Young by Julian Casablancas

All the cat Stevens! Lol

Imagine by John Lennon

Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin

Black Magic Woman by Peter Green

Hotel California by the Eagles

April Come She Will. I would also love to see a fully rocked out performance of Damn Right I Got The Blues.

Seasons by Chris Cornell

Anything by Ben Harper but my three picks of today are:
Forever
Walk Away
The Woman in You

Paranoid Android by Radiohead

Another vote for Little Wing, Jimmi's version and Stevie Ray Vaughn's interpretation.

If I were a 13 year old girl at a coffee shop listening to a cute young guy play guitar, I'd want to hear:

Hey There Delilah by Plain White Tees

Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran

For the First Time by The Script

Any of DRA's Taylor Swift covers

Basically anything emo/angsty/teenage-y.

:wavey:

Thank you all so far! :appl:
Keep them coming!

The 4 chord song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pidokakU4I!

A big part of the joy of music is sharing, so how about a bunch of songs that are great to sing with friends (or even alone):
Lean on me, brown eyed girl, sweet caroline, don't stop believing, sweet home alabama, Hey Jude, Wonderwall, free fallin', chasing cars, Halleluja, Hurt-(johnnycash/NIN), I don't want to miss a thing, Still alive, house of the rising sun, Cecelia, Fireflies, Hotel California, He soul sista, Hey there Delilah, and whatever else the cool kids are singing these days.

Dreamboat Annie by Heart. Or anything by Heart, because... Nancy Wilson.

New Slang by The Shins

Danny's Song.

Kenny,
You are breaking my heart. My 9 year old has been taking classical guitar lessons for nearly 2 years now and plays Latin music beautifully. There are times when I would ask him to play whilst I am just sitting around on the couch.

You're welcome! I think everyone should get to hear it at least once! I think it would be great in a coffeehouse environment where people are least expecting it.

Yesterday - The Beatles

Here comes the Sun - The Beatles

Can't help falling in love with you - Elvis

Angel
Red House
Comfortably Numb
Daydream

Hey there Delilah, Blackbird, Sleeping Sickness by City and Color.
