do you tell him/her the exact carat weight or do you round it off to the nearest 1/4 ct?
do you tell him/her the tcw or just the weight of your center stone?

I actually thought about this a while ago and if I would even tell anyone that information.

The other day I was sitting at a restaurant and overheard a loud group of girls at the table over talking about one of their friends E-ring and how the diamond was too "small"

I was really saddened to hear something like this,

therefore I'm not sure I'd want to tell anyone that info even if they asked

BUT my family does know the carat weight of my E-ring and its actually an even 2.50 so I guess there's no rounding for me

butttt...I'd probably round up :)

the size of mine is awkward. I say 2.7 instead of 2.71. I feel like I can''t say it is 2.75 because that is just as awkward to say and it feels like a lie... I think it is too far from 2.5 so I just say 2.7. If I was at 2.48 I would eat the lie to just say two and a half. But two and three quarters is a mouthfull lol

It depends on who''s doing the asking.

If I''m alone and it''s a stranger, I say it''s fake.
If it''s someone I don''t know very well or don''t trust very much, I say I don''t know.
If it''s a real friend (and I don''t have too many of those) I say 2 carats. It''s exactly 2.01.
If it''s someone who is doing her own e-ring research, I tell her EVERYTHING I know, set a date for ring shopping, and send her to PS.

I tell em it's WAY over two and a quarter.

I mean, one point is zillions of atoms.

Honestly, I've only been asked I think twice.
I just say 2.26.

I don't think it's any big deal how you respond to such questions.
Some people get really bent out of shape.

I say 90 points.
Usually they have no idea what I''m talking about.

With my AVC, I haven't been asked.
Seeing as it is an odd number, 1.08ct, I would probably just say "1ct".
But when I had my H&A RB, I was asked a couple of times (oddly only by men?) and I answered accurately - 1.25ct.

There was a (now ex member) who *always* rounded the weight of her diamond up when referring to it - and by something silly like ~ 20points or so

I always had a chuckle when I read that, why would one do such a thing when we all know the real sizes of each others rings? Very odd

Well to be fair, if it was 2.57 I would still say 2 and a half.

If it is someone I like I tell them the exact carat weight of the center stone which is 2.93. And if they want to know details I gladly fill them in if they are a real friend.

Otherwise I just round down to 2.9 and if it is someone I don't know I say I don't know.
And if asked by someone when I am alone on the subway (it has happened!)or by anyone who makes me feel uncomfortable (I trust my intuition) I say it is fake.

Mine is small (.53) so I usually say a 1/2 carat. Since it''s ideal cut most people seem to think it''s a carat.

If they are genuinely interested I will tell them the specs.

Autumnovember, that girl doesn''t have very nice friends!

I would so totally be rounding to 3ct - not out of fraud or something but out of simplicity. If mine was 3.07 I would be too. I don''t think most people appreciate the details lol

I know but I hate to inflate it even just a little bit because I am a goody 2 shoes that way and I am a stickler for getting details right. But I agree that most people don''t care about the details. I wouldn''t mind rounding down but I would feel funny rounding up.

I also don''t want people to think I am bragging- though all my close friends know how gaga I am over all jewelry and they allow me to talk about it endlessly sometimes

Mine is 2.36 and when someone asks, I usually just say, "A little over 2 and a quarter".

I say 3 carats, but it looks like 1 because it''s very dense.

No one has ever asked... But I would only round up from 1.77 to 1.8. That's a bit clearer to people who are not as savvy about sizes.

ETA: oh dear, seems like I'm the only one to round *up*. Maybe I should round down to 1.75.
3.gif

Mine was 1.01 carats so when people asked I just said one carat. Much easier.

I don''t think I have been asked, but I would probably say "just over a caret." It is 1.148 Cts, and I would be ok with rounding to 1.15, but that is still a weird number to say.

My stone is 0.77, and if anyone asks I just say 3/4 of a carat. I really don't get asked that often though.

It's a solitaire - so not other stones to confuse the issue. If it had more than one stone, I'd still only mention the centerstone (unless it was a three stone). Melee are pretty , but I don't think they should count.

If people mistake my ring for a princess cut (AVC), or white gold (platinum) I don't correct them because I don't want to appear to be bragging.

Never been asked IRL, hardly anyone has even noticed the change
4.gif

No one asks, but since its a three stone I would probably give the total caret weight.

Never been asked. I would just say 3.15 ctw.

I''m never sure if they want the center stone weight or the ctw of the ring. So I tell them the diamond is 1.09 and the setting has .20 in melee. Probably TMI but I prefer to be precise.

I size down too. I say 1.7 instead of 1.72 because I doubt they really care about the .02 of a carat and I feel dishonest saying 1 and 3/4.

I get lots of compliments but have never been asked how big it is..

You have a lot of integrity! Its only .03 away from being 3/4.

More like a guilt complex

Plus saying "one point seven" seems easier/flows better/faster than saying "one and three quarters). Guess I save myself a word

Not me, mine is 2.57 and I want every single point!!! I waited a long time for those points!!!

My ER is 1.06ct in the center and .27ct in the halo and band, if anyone asks I just tell them that the center is just over a carat and the ring is about a quarter of a carat, easy enough!

If it''s a friend or someone who doesn''t seem creepy asks, I say "a little over 1" (its actually 1.10).
I don''t mind people asking about it, I just figure if I didn''t want anyone to ask me about it I should wear a plain band. The only thing that bugs me is when people ask me if it''s real (this might make you guys roll your eyes but sadly my stone is the biggest of all of my friends and family).
