Jewellery related topic here.

When I was e-ring hunting I wanted the very best. It had to be over a carat, it had to be colourless (D) and ideally VS1 or better. Now don't get me wrong I love my ring dearly buuuut * I could never afford to upgrade, it is a total PITA to insure and I baby it.

So.... if I knew then what I know now, I would have spent less money buying a larger, lower grade stone; ideally an OMC from JBEG. So it would be bigger and possibly upgradeable!

Disclaimer: I mean any stone you bought since finding PS; like many of us here, this is technically my e-ring 2.0

. I bought this ring a year or so after I found PS but was not around long enough to realise that best was not better.

How would your choice have changed if you knew then, what you know now?

If I knew then . . .

For a do-over, (which will never be possible for me, barring something drastic), I would choose to go strictly traditional. A solitaire, of good size and great clarity, in an EC or RB or Asscher. Something that goes with any and all wedding bands, and doesn''t make the w-band seem incidental. Or like an accessory to the e-ring.

OR I would choose to get a fabulous diamond (or diamond/sapphire) band ring as an e-ring, and pair it with a plain platinum w-band.

Now, having said that, I still love my ring. And I did want a square shape then, and still would But I would choose a step cut stone over a princess. I find I like the ''quiet'' refraction of a step cut over the ''busy'' sparkle of a princess.

I thought my 1/3 carat marquise e ring from a catalog store was the bees knees....in 1975.
Now I would choose an OEC one carat excellent cut and clarity
with a warm color.

MissMina, do you still wear it? Just wondering!

Yes I do sometimes
I would never part with it

We didn't buy my stone, DH inherited it, so I didn't get to choose it, but if I had I would've picked something just like it (over 1.5ct transitional) if we could have afforded it.

I would change my setting, however. I like the general design, but it's just not delicate. I really wish the band was thinner. I even had it re-made, because the first iteration just wasn't what I wanted. I wish I had been more specific and asked them to make it thinner when they did the second iteration. DH would beat me over the head if I asked to change it again though.

I wish I knew back then that a big diamond wasn''t going to make me happy. I could have saved myself a lot of money.

I would have stayed with my original RB e-ring instead of trading it for a princess, and then now trying to go back to a classic RB.

I think we are all learning that one Maisie.

Agree! I wasted so much money the first couple years we were married trying to find the "perfect" ring. I ended up with my original ering solitaire setting - from walmart - which I put a very nice diamond in to replace the frozen spit that it came with. It's a two tone cathedral setting with the word always carved on one side of the profile and forever on the other. If I knew that nothing would make me happy but the ring he picked for me I could have saved myself a lot of moola and heartache

To expand on this comment personally - I used jewelry as a way to get back at DH for treating me poorly (he doesn't do it anymore) and ignoring me. I learned that no amount of material item can fill a hole in the heart - and that once it's full of love and happiness any size or type of material item can feel like the best thing on the earth.

This. My e-ring is swoopy and the only ring I found to fit with it as a wedding band was at Zales. It fits perfectly but...Zales, you know.

i was a member of ps when we bought my rings. i always said i want a larger center stone, still do and plan to upgrade eventually, but i still love my set. i have fleeting wishes for a fat eternity band or solitaire but always return to loving my rings.

I was already a PSer by the time we were engaged, so I wouldn''t change a thing.

Well, I really like my OEC, but I now have FOUR round diamonds that I wear every day on my hands. I almost wish I would''ve gone with a BGD (they weren''t around then though) so I could upgrade like dreamer does

I do love my oec, but I think I might eventually just turn it into a pendant. I''m not sure.. I also want a cushion. and a pear.. and...

I didn''t know jack about cut when I got my ring! That said, I don''t really have any regrets: I love everything about the stone and tend to get mesmerized by it. But cut would probably have been more of a priority for me if I''d known. Would I have wound up with

My ring has negligible fluorescence, and I adore strong blues: I would have made that a priority.

And, last but not least ... I refused to go below VS2, and now that I''ve gotten an SI1 stone, I don''t think I''m ever going to go back!

I''d have gone with a big fat 3-4ct stand alone eternity band and have a 2.5mm white gold band to wear when I am working in the yard or cleaning, at the beach, etc..

The more I see this look, the more I love it. I think if I had a "do over" I''d go this direction, too.

DH did my ring and I love it, the only thing I wish he had done differently would have been to talk to BGD and WF about making the setting or at least made sure he was getting the best stones from NSC b/c my sidestones are kind of
14.gif
. But, budget was a big issue and the ring was a suprise and he got so many things I wanted in a ring, that I love it all the same:-)

Now, if budget weren''t an issue...

That''s another story

I wanted to be married so badly and I wanted an ering so badly. I wish I would have taken the time to get something really great. I went to a store saw something I liked and got it. I am not saying that I am unhappy with it because it means so much, but I am sure that it could have been better. Also, I wish that I would have let him pick it out. I might have hated what he picked out for me, but it would at least be from his heart.
