.... that they became hugely valuable would you sell yours?

If the world ran out of diamonds and they became so rare that people were willing to pay obscene amounts of money to own one would you be tempted to part with your engagement ring?

I probably would sell mine. How bad is that?

Not my engagement ring, I don''t think I could ever part with it however another piece of jewelery possibly

I should have said that the ring I wear as an engagement ring isn''t the one I got engaged with, I would never sell that one.

I couldn''t sell my e-ring either but if I had any other diamonds, definitely!!!

The only diamonds I have are in my ering, and the earrings that my mom had made for my wedding with her old ering and my grandma''s ering stones, so they have too much sentimental value. But if I had other diamonds (like I hope to in the future) in things like a pendant or other studs, then I would probably sell if the price was right.

I wouldn't sell my engagement ring or any of the sentimental diamonds I have, but the others would be fair game!

LOL

Probably. Diamonds are more abundant than other gems such as rubies and emeralds. , which is why I never understood the price tag associated with diamonds. The industry wants us to think they are rare..but really they are not, therefore the cost to buy them is a tad absurd (in my opinion).

I wouldn''t.

Fun question, Maisie! I don''t know-I can''t decide! Maybe?

I wouldn''t.
I said probably!! Just trying to explain that it is highly unlikely!
Come to think of it..I wouldn''t. The diamond means more to me than any amount of $$.

It depends on how hard up I was for $ at the time and if I expected the price to come back down or not. And I would only sell my ering if I really had to.

well, if I had an ering diamond (which I probably won''t) I wouldn''t. But if it were an upgrade stone or something, I might consider it if I really needed the $$$. But if they were that rare it would be a cool thing to keep in the family!

I would sell another diamond, but not my engagement ring. No way. Not unless my baby was in danger of dying for lack of food or some other crazy thing like that.

Just how obscene an amount of money are we talking about?

50 Million? 1 Billion?

If so, I think I could live with that. Deal.

Totally!

If my earrings, rb & EC studs, jackets, antique pendant, tennis bracelet, rhr oval and my eternity band are going to bring me an obscene amount of money, please consider them sold! My e-ring, wedding band and maternity gift can therefore afford to stay home, right? Oh, and I''d probably keep my DBL pear pendant, it was a graduation gift. The other stuff I have also has sapphires in it - is it worth keeping the sapphires and selling the diamond parts? Are sapphires costing silly money in this scenario too? Because if not, I think I''d use a little of the diamond money to get some awesome sapphires!

I may have too much spare time, because I''m actually starting to fantasize about this scenario, and what I''m going to do with the money I make...

Good question, Maisie!

For me marriage is about my love for my hubby not the diamond *runs and hides*. hehe I do like looking at it sparkle though that is why I have some sparklies

Nope--would not sell. You never know when another discovery might be made.

eta: just read above post--okay for several million--yah, because if another discovery was made, I could buy lots more--haha!

There are some diamond pieces I would part with now even if I just got what I paid for since I NEVER wear any of them. For example, since upgrading to my ACA studs, I haven''t worn my smaller ones again (and it''s been about a year and a half!). Why would I hang onto those if I got something like $10K for them?

I''m not sure if I would sell my eng. ring since IF diamonds were obscene amounts, all my other pieces would net me a nice enough profit to be comfy. (I would just keep my eng. ring and ACA studs and sell everything else

)

I''d rather have a house paid off then more diamonds than I have time to wear.

I couldn''t sell me ering, but would sell my studs or diamond pendant.

Hmm I would like to think I could sell any material thing, because when you get down to it it is just a thing, and as they say "you can''t take it with you".

A harder question would be for me very sentimental objects such as photos of deceased family members, postcards, letters, etc.

Not my engagement ring. Anything else I would.

Definitely not my e-ring, late MIL''s e-ring or my anniversary ring. Anything else, yes.

I would if it were for several million or even billion...

I''m extraordinarily attached to my e-ring, so the figures would have to be past the 7-figure mark before I''d seriously consider it--even then I''d probably just sell the center stone, keep the setting and replace it with a Neatfreak-inspired sapphire. As attached to it as I am, I think at some point I''d start to think about the future I could give my kids if I just sold the darned thing. Besides, I''d get to keep my husband and he''s what I really care about.

Um. The only diamonds I'll have are the one I found in the parking lot, the chip I got in a ring for my 13th birthday, and my mom's. So, no. You couldn't pay me enough.

Any diamond accents on my other jewelry are fair game though!!

Yes, I''d probably sell it... for the right price.

No way. I love my sparkle, no matter the going rate!!!

What was the diamond you found in a parking lot?

I guess I am not that sentimental. Yes, I''d sell my ering, bezel studs, etc. We''re talking for obscene amounts of money, right? Enough to pay for my kid''s college, buy a nice house for us for her to grow up in and have plenty for retirement for TGuy and me? It''s not even a second thought..practicality wins hands down over sentimentality for me.

Now, if it was, say, only 10 times what I paid for it, then no.
