Hey everybody.

I have done well with the house so far. We finally got down all the old wallpaper and I have painted all the room with exception to the guest bath, master bath and master bedroom. We have the color for the master bedroom.. it is a "sage" green type of color. We are doing the guest bathroom in an green apple and rose pink. ( it is a really fun bathroom look)..

The problem is the master bathroom. I HAVE NO IDEA what color to paint it. It has NO windows at all.. so no natural light. I love the french type warm bathrooms you see on those make over shows though. We are going to change the light fixtures.. I just had to switch the colors first... So... I need ideas for some good colors.

NO BLUES!!! NO PINKS!!! NO real whites!!

So I need 2 suggestions... color of walls and color that we should paint the cabinets... I am attaching some picsc of the bathroom that still has that nasty wallpaper on it (gone now)

HELP!!

Here is a pic of the cabinets.. we are replacing the knobs, faucet, medicine cabinet and the lights... but we can''t do any of that till we pick a color...

Last one...

Do you think I should paint it the same color as the bedroom? I am just at the end of my creative rope I think!

Mine, I think I would go with a nice warm yellow. Not lemon, not quite mustard, but something in between. And maybe add some blue accents since you mentioned the French theme. Changing out the knob/pulls will make a world of difference and putting some art on the walls in the right theme too. And I think painting the vanity cabinet would make a huge difference.

If you want to make the bathroom seem bigger you can paint your cabinets in a shade similar to whatever you put on the wall. I sometimes will paint my cabinets 1 or 2 shades darker than the walls. This makes them blend in better and makes the room appear bigger.

What is the accent color in your sage green bedroom?

it is a bit of a '....reddish clay' color... not quite burgandy..

Dee JAy.. I thought about yellow.... but it is sooo hard to fin the perfect yellow... Uknow

Mine, that was my experience. in my little box house i had a little box bathroom that i thought i just had to paint yellow. i never was happy with the color. it was a pleasure to paint over it when i was getting it ready for sale.

i''m also not fond of painting trim a different color from the walls in a small room....makes it appear smaller and too busy, imo. however, the same color or a shade or two different blends and gives the illusion of more space.

You''re right about how hard finding the perfect yellow is! I tried for two years in our last place and when I finally got the master bedroom painted the right golden wheaty sort of shade we moved... LOL!

I know I mentioned this before but our house has the same outdated cabinets. In the bathrooms I painted them black and they look great. In the kitchen FI actually filled in the groove, sanded them and then pained them white, the look brand new. Honestly the groove pattern dates it and the flat cabinets look great.

Now for colors:
I love soft greens, tans, and I am a purple girl. Our master bathroom is a merlot color and FI got so excited over the color

He is not usually that type of person. You could do a few shades lighter or darker than your bedroom but I wouldn''t do the SAME color.

Good luck!

I painted some old worthless bathroom cabinets...and weird as it sounds, I did the crackle paint and painted them an antique paleyellowoffwhite'ish color, and then rubbed some light stain on and the right off, so it just stuck in the cracks. Then I just took a file and antiqued up the edges! It looked like old weathered antique furniture and it turned out so awesome! I put some cool antique fixtures and knobs...and the whole bathroom was redone for under $100! I don't seem to have any pics though...

I like the old cabinets like that look great in a flat brick red, with the antiqued up edges and then that real earthy yellow walls...and just keep your trims white! I think I have a pic of some that I painted for a friend....these were so old, gross and totally 70's and should have just been ripped out! But, they looked cool when they were done!

Do you have a Restoration Hardware Store in a mall near you? They have some wonderful colors - and they actually use them on the various wings of their store so you can see what they look like. I''ve used three of their colors in my home. They sell a limited pallette of colors so it''s not so confusing, and they have tiny sample cans for a couple of dollars so you can try them out before committing to a whole gallon.

Yellows are tricky. I would test several colors. Sherwin Williams offers "paint pouches" that give you enough to paint a test area. Also, with yellow, I have found it is often better to look in the "ivory" category rather than the true "yellow" category on the paint chips. I painted my basement a what I thought was a light, warm yellow and it turned out to look like pee yellow. I redid it in an ivory color and it is now just right.

I don't think I'd use your brick red color in the painting but maybe small accents. If you did the walls 1 shade of yellow (flat or eggshell) then do the trim & cabinets the same shade or 1 shade darker but in a semi-gloss that will give you enough contrast while still making the room seem larger.

Island~The brick is the accent color.. i.e. duvet/lamps~ my trim is womething called Creamy White... it has more of a ... ivory tone to it.

Tacori. I love my kitchen cabinets... I changed out the hardware.. and that made a HUGE difference... I really wanted to keep the ''woo''d and not paint them... but I think that filling int he grooves for the bathroom could be a good possiblity. I also like the idea of painting them black in the bathroom though... so that is a possibility.

Cool idea Tawn. I wish I could do something like that but... I am not sure about it being quite the look I like. I love it iin other places.. but it would not go with the rest of the house... You know what I mean?

Tulip... looks cool too... unfortunately I am in backwoods hell when it comes to unique stores like that...

MZ and DJ. I think that I am probably not going to do those warm yellows or yellow and I WANT so much to stay away from ivories or whites.. I really needed more color....

MZ... This is what I am afraid of is going to happen... I never going to ve happy until I paint it to move out...LOL...

I like the idea of painting it a darker color from the main Bedroom... hmmm... that gives me some serious food for thought.. I kinda like that idea really.
