hi--struggling with how to set an emerald cut diamond. l:w is 1.35 so it is a longer stone but not excessively lean. I HATE the basic ec with two tapered baguettes but I do want classic, elegant yet with some special element to personalize it. I had originally wanted the Leon Mege setting that is completely encrusted in bead set pave from top to bottom including the prongs with no side stones but i dont think that will work and the vendor says that ec''s that arent squarish need side stones...

help................................................

Huh? I don''t believe that a long EC needs sidestones, unless it''s so skinny that it looks like a pencil on your finger. This Icestore creation is a radiant, but it''s a longer one, and it looks fine on a pave band with no sidestones.

thanks for the picture--you''re right it looks very nice

Oh, also I just noticed that your stone is a 1.35 ratio. *Mine* is as well and that''s really considered on the squarer side as far as ECs go. I think it''s only now that asschers have become popular than anyone would consider a 1.35 to be "not squarish"! Here''s mine:

Yours is amazing..............did you design it. just so UNIQUE

Hi,

I don''t know if you''re still looking for setting ideas, but I just wanted to let you know that I went through the same agonizing process searching for a setting for my EC. It''s a 2.84 F VS2 EC with a 1.27 l:w ratio. Like you I wanted something classic yet interesting with a bit more going on than the usual baguette sides. Unfortunately the matter was complicated by the fact that I have very tiny hands (short size 4 finger) and can''t pull off much more diamond. I finally settled on having Leon Mege set it with step-cut bullets (.73 cttw) and bead set pave on the shoulders and sides. It came out beautifully; my fiance and I couldn''t be happier. I can try to attach a couple of pictures if you''re interested in seeing it.

Oh, and I saw the stats of the EC you purchased from DCD. It sounds absolutely stunning!

Thanks! same story how funny! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see some pix as your ring sounds amazing! My ring is in the works and here is a verbal description. The stone will be flanked by double (small) trapezoids set right into the shank, to give the illusion of side stones but not actually have prong set side stones (i really like the look of a solitaire in any shape with an intricate setting). But, I felt a longer EC need some weight on the sides. So the shank tapers away from the center stone-- the first set of traps are larger (.4 ish total, then a smaller pair.) Both separated from eachother by milgraining. Then the shank and basket will be bead set with diamonds --only down the sides about 2/3''s of the way. The prongs will be flat and solid and spilt right above the basket/girdle into fat claws. Prongs are not bead set. I have a beautiful antique band of about 3 carats square cut diamonds channel set in platinum no decoartion at all and too much bead work made them not "go" together. Leaving some smooth metal ties the two rings together. We''ll see its been agonizing-----------i originally wanted an old mine or cushion but couldnt find one i really liked...........................i fell in love with this one tho its not your typical EC ...

Your ring sounds like it''s going to be incredible! I love trapezoids too and went back and forth between bullets and traps (not to mention shields) for ages. I can''t wait to see the pictures when it comes out.

Like everyone else on PS I was following the saga of your Leon Mege ring. I received mine about 5 days after you posted pictures of yours and I can''t tell you how much harder the wait was after seeing how beautifully yours had turned out.

Uh-oh, I''m having difficulty attaching pictures. I got an error message saying that the file I was trying to attach is undefined.

i think you have to attach before you write anything--ask reena

This is the one picture Leon Mege sent me.

This picture was taken by our appraiser, Martin Fuller. Unfortunately I don''t have any hand shots at the moment as I can''t find the charger for our digital camera anywhere. I''m still looking though..

wow wow wow!! hope you find the charger soon..............

i am in love! it appears your stone has a little sharper cut corners like mine--? the setting will be very much the same san the bullets

Snapdragon--that is one kickass ring!

Thank you so much! I think the corners on my stone are fairly sharply cut. Here''s the picture Whiteflash sent me (thanks Bob!)I can''t wait to see pictures of your incredible stone. I may have to track down a copy of Departures magazine.

I hope my fiance doesn''t catch me posting pictures of my ring on the internet. One of our friends posted pictures of her (gorgeous) Harry Winston e-ring on Pricescope a while back and he thought that was so weird!

yes yours has more asscher-y corners--yours looks to have a good crown on it too?

crown height % is 13 (table and depth are both 63%)

very nice--what a terrific stone! my crown is high at 17% but i really like higher crowns if you still have fairly normal spread

snapdragon wins the gorgeous ring award--check it out!
