Hi

Finally got the Idealscope and had been trying it out on mounted stones. I find the 'red' is much lighter, transparent-looking rather than the solid red posted by PSers. What i see on my stones are just like the one on this thread

Is that how it would look on mounted stones, or is that indication of poor light return?

Thanks

Could depend on the angle that you're tilting the IS in - does the whole stone show up in lighter red or are there light and dark spots?

The photo set up difference accounts for the overall intensity of the shade of red on the whole stone. I wouldn't worry about that but under the table their might be a little leakage. I can't tell how much.

Thanks MissGotRocks and Gypsy for the reply. I haven't been able to capture it in a photo but just by looking it through the scope (I held it up with a tweezer) it looks bright transparent red??

That's normal. My ASET on mounted stones shows a much less saturated red than it does on an unmounted stone.

Well done - and the slightly pale zone in the center is about 80% light return - and there is never more than that. Well 83% is the most possible.

Thanks again Gypsy and thank you Gary for confirming. phew! Am now relieved to know that the existing RB is actually not bad. Will practice it on some loose stones next week :)
