Hi,
This is our first diamond purchase and I'm a bit nervous. We've got a diamond on hold, waiting for a gemologist review. I was wondering about the HCA tool's results vs idealscope images. This diamond is a true hearts, from my untrained eye, the idealscope images look decent. But the HCA score is a 2.7 - Very Good.
I'm not sure how reliable the HCA scores are, I did read that it states to use this tool to exclude diamonds and going by that reasoning, I may have passed on this one if I had checked it's grade first. Should I be concerned? Are the idealscope images ok?

The ring is graded 3X by GIA. It's got a large feather that I am having checked out but it looks so clean for an SI2.
Depth 62.2%
Table 57%
crown angle 35.5
pav angle 40.8
no culet

HCA results are Very Good for all factors with total score of 2.7.

GIA 1166355173

Without the full story the HCA rejects combinations like this. However your ideal-scope and pavilion image trump the HCA.

The 57/40.8/35.5 combination can be problematic in commercially cut goods, especially as GIA rounding may be hiding a deeper combination like 57/40.9/35.7. This specimen shows better cut-consistency than commercial goods, and the angles are possibly at-or-shallower than the averages shown, thus negligible light-loss.

In the same spirit, the AGSL cut-guides predict this combination (without more info) to receive AGS 2-4 in light performance. However, a diamond with consistent cutting, smart minor facet choices and proper indexing might move up to receive AGS 0-1, which seems in-keeping with this image.

BTW, this is why having an ideal-scope or ASET photo is important for proper analysis.

thank you!
