It's confirmed eye clean which I assumed from the nice plot map and costs $17,000. GIA XX, VG symmetry

2.01 H SI1
Table 58
Length 61.1
Crown 34.5
Pavilion 40.6

Which vendor is this from? I see these very bright pink idealscopes often and i'm not sure if I am interpreting them correctly, but to me it looks like the pink is a lighter shade under the table from 11 to 2 oclock. Not sure if that is less intense light return or what. Maybe someone else will comment, but otherwise it looks good to me.

I agree that that idealscope image is deceptive. How can the background be bright pink when you are trying to see leakage? Background needs to be white. Very possible this stone has leakage where pfunk said. I am curious what vendor this is as well.

I noticed that too. I thought it was due to the symmetry. It's labeled as very good, not excellent. I hope some others can comment because this search has been tiring although I admit it is fun as well ; )

What is your budget and color/clarity range preference? Let us see what we can find.

Budget is preferable 16,500 or less. H color, 2 carats, any clarity as long as it's eye clean. I don't care about fluorescence as long as no negative effects. It's not easy finding an ideal cut with all the right measurements.

I'm thinking of going with a signature hearts and arrows in a smaller size like I was originally going to do, around 1.7 carats. I thought I could get something close enough to it in a 2 carat but the searching is going on so long now I'm not sure it's even out there.

Thanks Pfunk but I tried to get images from him once before and he told me they weren't needed and that I should go by his cut score alone. I started a thread on it. He was not very professional.

Oh yes, I remember the thread well. At least how it transformed by the end. For what it is worth, I bought my diamond there and it is gorgeous and they took great care of me. I was very pleased. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, as I think they are consistenly listing diamonds for better prices than anywhere else while still offering similar upgrade, return, and shipping policies. I know most here are going to tell you to get idealscope or aset images or don't buy the diamond, but lots of happy customers buy from places like blue nile and brick and mortar stores every day without any magnified images. I think you'd be ruling out a lot of potentially very beautiful diamonds with your budget and specifications if you limit yourself to only the stones that have all the images. If you'd like us to look at smaller diamonds in your budget we can start looking and help you find something. Have you looked at james allen?

Well ignorance is bliss, as they say!

Chihuahua...let me first ask you, is your gf expecting or wanting a 2 ct diamond? Do her friends or sisters mostly wear that size? If the answer to all of that is yes, then we can look at that size but you will have to make some compromises. If the answer is no, I think going under 2 cts is a better idea.

Actually it would be ignorant to say beautiful diamonds aren't purchased every day from places like that or that buying without an idealscope or aset means you took far too great of a risk.

Chihuahua, no matter where you buy from, don't get caught up in everything that tells you that you must have perfect images in order to get a beautiful diamond. It just isnt true. Take advantage of great return policies and try to get something you originally set out to get in your budget. If your eyes don't love it, just send it back. I'd bet money a lot of what you are ruling out would make you very happy and would have been a fair buy (including the diamond you started this thread with).

pfunk, now come on, I think one of the diamonds that you just posted beats the stone in the original image. I am actually with you on talking a little risk when numbers are perfect and the image of the stone itself shows no leakage, but I think the first stone he posted in the thread probably has enough leakage to rule it out. (And I hope that vendor notes that his idealscope images aren't going to be liked here until he changes to a white background!)

I'd consider this one. But I still want him to answer my questions.

(The reason I said ignorance is bliss is because thousands and thousands of people are also happy going to mall jewelers and buying mediocre cut, I1 clarity stones every day. Not everyone is educated on diamonds and knows what a well cut diamond looks like.)

Today I looked at a diamond in person that they weren't able to get images for. On paper it looked decent. The only thing that seemed that could be off was the crown angle at 35.4. Upon inspection I noticed that around the table didn't have as much fire as I thought it should have. I looked at it with my ideal scope and sure enough there was leakage around the table. I have seen super ideal hearts and arrows diamonds and I can see the difference, even from memory. I have also compared very good cuts, excellent cuts and ideal AGS cuts. I can always pick out the inferior diamond. I don't want to sacrifice superior light performance so I don't believe what I'm ruling out would have made me happy.

I AM the girlfriend ; ) My boyfriend is asking me to pick out my diamond because he wants me to have exactly what I want. I am not one to keep up with the Jones' so what they all wear is of no interest to me ; )

I don't think I can compromise to get the bigger stone. I don't want to go to a non eye clean stone (unless it can be covered with a prong) and my bf wants me to stay with H color or higher because he can see the color difference from I to H.

I think you answered my question diamondseeker. I will probably stick with the signature diamonds in a smaller size.

Yay!!! It is ALWAYS best for the girl to have input!!! I am very glad! We just ask those questions to guys when they are coming on here and not 100% sure what they should get. I think you'll be happy with the signature stones, really. And they have great upgrade policies in case you ever get the dreaded DSS! You can tell your boyfriend that I like him because he wants you to have exactly what you want! That is a great sign for a successful marriage, especially when it works both ways! :))

Chihuahua, if you can easily tell inferior diamonds from superideals then I think you are right that you should definitely only look at superideals. Not quite sure why you were gonna move forward with this diamond that isn't even GIA triple x if the superideal is all that does it for you. You should be able to find something cut perfectly from whiteflash, GOG, or brian gavin. They have all the info you need to make a well informed decision and have great upgrade policies as well. Can't go wrong with any of them. Are you in any sort of time crunch?

I didn't realize it wasn't xxx until after I got the images. I thought perhaps it could be something that wouldn't be noticeable. It is becoming a time crunch because I'm taking so long with all of this. I am going to go with my original choice Brian Gavin. I have to settle details on the setting now.

Congratulations!

You have made the decision and taken the action to actually see the diamond. It is only with your eye that you can actually see what appeals to your eye. Now that you know that your eye can see the difference between good and fantastic, you can proceed on your search for fantastic. This diamond is to be an important symbol of an exciting time in your life. It is going to be greatly treasured, even more so since you are able to know that it is truly what your eye likes, not something that was supposed to be good enough.
