Ok, I finally ordered my Ideal-Scope yesterday and I can’t wait to get it! I was curious about how accurate the Ideal-Scope is with set stones since I wanted to look at my e-ring with it. What should I expect to see with a set stone and any additional advice from that I already found on their website?

I think Garry mentioned that with princess cuts, he likes to rotate the princess a bit when looking at the scope b/c it gives him a more accurate impression of the stone’s performance? Any other advice?

Wait..is the bottom red image the way the Ideal-Scope image would look on a princess cut that is already in a setting and the top red image the way it would look loose?

no
they are virtual images for 2 different stones as seen thru ifdealscope and realistic views.
Top set is a good stone

bottom set is a bad stone.

Rotation of fancy shaped stones is very important - face up only is not enough in my opinion.

I was also wondering whether there is much of a difference between the results you will get when the diamond is already in a setting and when the diamond is loose? If anyone has used their idealscopes in both case, can someone share their opinion with me?

You shouldn't because the diamond is in afarely open setting and can get back light.

If you look from a variety of angles with good light behind the stone the leakage will appear.
But either way - the red will only be there in places the stone is returning light - it is an important distinction - no red - no light return.
