anyone know if this is true? that an ideal or excellent cut diamond that is G color will look colorless due to the superior cut? i konw G is already near colorless and wnated to make sure that it doesnt look yellow at all!

thanks

it all depends on how color sensetive you are, but my fiance is very color sensetive and we ended up with an excellent cut "g" and we can see no tint or "warmth" at all, it looks icy white in all lighting conditions, check my SMTR post for pics

G H are near colourless and and don''t show any warmth. It does depend on how colour sensitive you are, but even then with the ex cut, they really look white! If budget is a concern you can''t loose with a G. I have a G and it is stunning. No colour at all. Even if there is you would more than likely only see anything if at all from the side.

A reliably graded round brilliant G shouldn''t look yellow in any way.

lovehersomuch - you have been looking for a long time now, have you got any closer to finding the perfect diamond?

I have a G that the appraiser called a low F/high G. I can see a slight tint in the stone upside down and from the side - definitely not yellow. It faces up really white and once I have it set, I'm sure it will look even whiter.

I have an I colored HOF diamond and it doesn''t show any color at all, although Im sure you could see a difference if it was compared to an F or E. Im sure your G will be fine. I am pretty color sensitive and there is definitely no yellow.

You have no idea how difficult it is to detect the extremely faint yellow tint of a G, when examining it face-down in a white colour-grading tray if you do not have the lighting that you are used to.

Trust me, once set, you will not see.

Live long,

yes i think i found the diamond.. i have it posted in another thread. hopefully when the jeweler gets the diamond it checks out and ill be purchasing tomorrow!

There is no way you can see yellow in a true G. No way. If you turn it upside down on white paper and use some special lighting, maybe you could see a faint difference between a G and an E, but your fiance won''t be wearing her ring upside down on white paper carrying around a special lighting instrument, so you should feel secure that the stone will be white as can be. --Just make sure that you get a reputable certification that the color grade is really a G. :-)
