I just purchased a diamond. Here are the measurements. Can anyone tell if this is an ideal cut or what?
Measurents: 7.64-7.67x4.62
Depth 60.4%
Table 60%
It could have ideal proportions with the depth and table size - according to HCA, but not according to most other systems because they would consider the table too big.
You need a Sarin scan first to be able to use the Cut Adviser
I don't know the exact time frame, but for a while, conventional thinking was that a 60/60 diamond was ideal. Many people still consider a 60/60 (60% depth and 60% table) diamond ideal. According to the AGS, it would not be ideal because of the 60% table, regardless of the other proportions of the diamond. And by reading the pricescope tutorial, you can see that one 60/60 diamond can be completely different than another. Most people on this forum will tell you you need at least the crown and pavillion angles to start to determine the cut of a round diamond. Finally, as the GIA is finding out, "ideal" is a difficult thing to define. According to them, there are many different combinations of proportions that yield beautiful diamonds.
My 2 cents, when it comes down to it, if you think it looks beautiful, than it's ideal.
It's not "ideal" by our standards or by what is currently considered to be "ideal" by generally accepted standards, however it might very well be a pretty stone depending on the crown and pavilion angles... Depending on those measurements the actual proportions rating could fall anywhere between AGS-2 Very Good and AGS-10 Poor but the only way to find out for sure is to get a Sarin or OGI proportions analysis if you're concerned about it...
The stone is not withing the ideal numbers accepted by the diamond industry,as they should be withing these numbers:
d=59-62%
t=53-57%
girdle=thin-med-sltk
culet=n
polish=ex-vg
symm=ex-vg
flour.=none-faint
from my experience 60%,60 with all the other above details will also have lot's of fire and brilliance.
