I can see it...its not a pretty diamond...

how important is clarity to you?

my personal preference is for a stone to be eye clean, so I limited my search to SI1-VS2 stones and confirmed eye cleanliness for any SI1 stones I was interested in. When you start getting into I1 clarity range you need to be aware and comfortable with the fact that the inclusions are going to be clearly visible with the naked eye in most cases (you can ask them to confirm this though).

If you haven''t seen many diamonds in real life I would go to the mall one day and look at some of their stones (mall stores have lots of I1 clarity stones usually). And see if it bothers you when you look at a diamond and see the inclusion.

Well...the plus is that it's well cut, so it has a lot over really horrid I1's from maul stores. That being said, it likely is not eyeclean. I might take a chance on it for a pendant or something, but not for an engagement ring personally...

If this is your max budget and size is absolutely the top priority it might be a good choice for you. Otherwise, I'd go down on size or color and up on clarity a wee bit to make sure it's eyeclean.

I did ask them about clarity. They didn''t mention the knot but they did mention the feather which seems to be where the knot is. I have just never dealt with a knot. I actually own some beautiful eye clean diamond studs that are I1 (of course, they were bought before my Pricescope days and I was told they were SI2''s. When I had a real appraisal done on them I found they were I1''s but with an excellent cut. If I get in just the right light and study them for possibly 5 minutes, I can see a crystal on the edge of one of them. They sparkle like crazy - not as much as my ACA SI1 diamond pendant, but very close.)

Did they say if it is eyeclean/ eyecleanish? The cut is good so if it is eyeclean it could be a pretty diamond, did you want it for a pendant or ring stone? Here is some info on knots you may find helpful, quoted from Garry.

"A knot (also knat in Belgian I think) is like a knot in a piece of wood - so when you saw or sand it you are working end grain which is much harder. The result with wood is the knot will stand up just like the knot in the diamond as O has explained from the GIA definition.

The knot arises because for some reason like change in temp / press or supply of carbon etc the diamond decided to start growing a crystal in another direction. This is called twinning - the growth of another crystal - usually in a 180 degree orientation on the same plane (the resulting crystal is a flat triangular outlined thing called a maccle that are often used to cut trilliants)."

Yes, they said it was eye-cleanist except for the feather that you would know is there if you knew where to look. They never mentioned the knot. However, the knot concerned me the most after looking at the AGS certification so I passed on it. I was considering it for a pendant.

Thanks for everyone''s input.

The know is plotted on the upper girdle facet, it''s the feathers, crystals and twinning wisps under the table that set this clarity.

The knot is prong coverable.

I think it would rock for a pendant!

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in "ideal"s that we poo poo what could be a good bargain. Looks like a good I1.

I wouldnt want it for my ering but I agree it would be great for a pendant. Are you going to get it?

i think it would make a knock-out pendant! good luck!

Breann, both of those are nice choices. I''m going to look more. Thanks.

Oooooh, I love that .84!! One prong would cover that feather! That would be a terrific ering stone!!
