I want an diamond that will sparkel from accross the room for a girl that does, HELP!

Hey everyone!
My name is Rick and I am 23yrs old, and a high school teacher

. I have been with my girlfriend for about 5 years and am going to propose next year, about Jan or Feb of 2009. I have been researching diamonds for about 2.5 years ( why spend 6-7000$ and not know what youre doing, right?

Is this a great stone? I am concerned about the fluorescence, but nobody has given me a good indication about it,,,,,,,,what do you all think? I know she want round brillant, six prong, and white gold high setting....

Rick, this looks quite promising. I think as long as you get an ideal cut diamond it will sparkle from across the room. Do you have the link to this diamond?

this stone will probably have a little bit of leakage.
 
Is that bad? There are similar diamonds priced about 1000 more.
 
You could do better. Either drop your carat weight or go to SI1, or increase the $. Part of the $1000 is probably the fluorescence, though. Too bad.

Rick, I don''t want to add to your confusion, but I want to recommend you head over to whiteflash.com and take a look at their ACA diamonds. They are really incredible and I bet they are competitively priced to Blue Nile, possibly a little less expensive for a much better cut diamond than the one you posted on. If you search Whiteflash here, you will find tons of messages on their stuff. And I got a chance to go to their offices recently and see some of the ACAs up close in person and I have never seen more beautifully cut RB diamonds, including at Tiffany and Cartier. Good luck

Total Visual Performance 3.4 - Very Good - Worth buying if the price is right

The fluorescence can actually enhance the color of your diamond, making it appear more of an E/F in color. However, outdoors when the diamond picks up the UV rays, it will probably display a violet hue. Some folk love this phenomenon, but others hate it. I have a solitaire that has strong blue fluorescence. I'll attach a picture and you can see what I mean. Unless you know for sure that your partner loves it, I would avoid stones with STRONG fluorescence.

If you haven''t, you definitely should to see what you find most visually appealing. Anyway, You can do what I''m doing. My budget on the diamond itself is $3000 for a half to thee quarter carat. I purchased 3 different diamonds, each from a different vendor. Each of them are Ideal or Excellent cut, but vary in color and clarity. I am comparing them to see which has the most sparkle and FIRE. ahhh.

I had to click on your thread simply because of the wonderful title of your post!

As Lorelei mentioned, you need to look beyond the total depth and table diameter measurements of the diamonds that you are considering and take into account the relationship between the crown and pavilion angle measurements - my personal preference is a crown angle between 34.2 - 34.8 degrees combined with a pavilion angle between 40.6 - 40.9 degrees - however there are many other combinations that will work quite well. Take some time to run the numbers for the diamonds that interest you through the Holloway Cut Adviser which is available here on PS via the Tools / Cut Adviser link available within the directory located at the top of the page. The HCA is a good tool for weeding out top performers from the masses of diamonds that are available.

Fluorescence can be a beneficial factor, especially in an "I" color diamond where medium to strong blue fluorescence will have the tendency to lift the body color of the diamond towards the high end of the "I" color range... And it can be a fun topic of conversation at parties, uh, I meant to say Science Class

Thank you all soo much for the nice words and information. To be honest, this diamond experiance has been both incredibly touching and challenging. Right now, I am starting to really feel overwhelmed!

I want to get the most brillant ring that I can afford ( under $7000 without setting), and think I need some direction. All I know for sure is that I want it over a carat, round brillant, and as sparkly as possible. Any suggestions?

If you want the most sparkle, then I wouldn''t suggest Blue Nile. Not saying that they''re not a great company, just that their diamonds aren''t on hand. They don''t know what the stone really looks like and can''t provide you and actual picture of the diamond you''re looking at.

I would suggest Good Old Gold if you''re looking to buy online. They have a wealth of information regarding all aspects of choosing the right diamond - with side by side comparisons and pictures.

Plus, they have their diamonds on hand and can help you find the stone that you are looking for. You can see what you''re buying on their site.

If you want to go to a Brick & Mortar store, you could ask PS what local diamond dealers and jewelrs are reccomended in your area. As for me, I sing nothing but praise for Shane Co... but not all PSers will agree with me.

Or, like I suggested before, you can buy a few and compare them in real life yourself to see what you like best.
