I took an inventory of my entire makeup/hair/skin "collection..." WHY DID I DO THIS.

I have been planning a "no buy" for a while, and was a little late on implementing it til this month (like today.) I have set groundrules and minimal exceptions. But I also decided to, wisely or unwisely, document my entire "inventory" of makeup, brushes, skincare and haircare stuff, some of which is "stockpiled."

I could've bought a hell of a diamond with that amount of money!

Has anyone else (esp someone really into makeupy stuff) done this? Did it curb your spending?

I have done it with my jewelry! I could have bought almost an apartment I guess.

Lol, if I had a dime for every magic potion I have bought for wrinkles, discoloration, blah, blah, blah that sits in a drawer that serves as the black hole for products that were a complete waste of money!

You are not alone!

I have my diamond jewely on a spreadsheet (doesn't include colored stones). Could have bought a house in some parts of this country.

Makeup, zero, I am a low maintenance gal, no makeup, no mani-pedi, no hair coloring or styling. Yes, I am ugly, (with wrinkly hands) but hubby loves my insides not my outward appearance.

Your username and the grace you've always shown on the forums is beautiful and elegant to me, that's class!

I moved 2years ago so was forced to inventory during packing. Haven't bought much in products since as I've been trying to use up stuff. I do have skin care, perfume, etc on my gift wishlist so that's been my primary way of getting new products.

Ok I'm a product junkie so FEEL FREE to send any unwanted beauty swag to The Elliot86 Foundation, c/o Oreo Cookie (my assistant).

Every morning I cringe as I apply my creams and pray they actually do something to keep this decrepit face together

No, but I did point out to DH that storing something until he decides what to do with it has cost us $30,000 so far. Got him to thinking! (Need to remind him again as he seems to have forgotten...)

That's me with Nordstrom. I buy stuff during the sales and they stay in bags in my closet. When I was wfh I just wore sweats. One year I bought something and found its duplicate hanging in plastic from the year before.

Same with diamonds. I don't wear any. I could have even more in savings now.

At least when I bought the shit ton of lularoe leggings and some plain tops to go with them from Macy's I wore them. They've become my new stay at home housewife uniform.

Oh and shoes. Idk what I own anymore. I wear the same flip flops most of the spring and summer, a pair of sneakers and this winter i wore the same shearling boots. What do I need the other million cute shoes for?

For me, it's hair stuff. Trying to find the magic regimen for my wavy hair so that it stays soft and frizz-free but holds its curl. It's like a never-ending quest. And then something that works great for a while will suddenly stop working and its back to the drawing board.

No lie, I probably have 15 different MoroccanOil and Curl Junkie products that are barely used sitting in my linen closet. I'm about to give it all to a friend who loves their stuff as I'm now trying Ouidad's "Climate Control" line. Wish me luck o_O

Hair products for fine hair/volume. Pots of Bare Essentials loose eyeshadows. I quit buying them but bought all the ones in cases. Most of my beauty products come from Paula's choice anymore but I have a ton. I wish I could find the perfect combination that would keep wrinkles at bay forever.

Does "Night Repair" aka anti wrinkle cream work?

I force myself to go through it all every few months, I send what I haven't/won't use to friends. I force myself to use what I do have daily. The regimen is pretty intense!

There are a few things that help. Nothing will erase it all, lol. I figure I spent my younger years worshipping the sun. The damage won't be undone with a few nights of wrinkle cream. A good dermatologist can help though.

I do this quite frequently as I'm attempting :eek-2: to convert to minimalism so I'm always trying to whittle it down to "sleek best basics routine". I love makeup & skincare shopping so I'm always trying to STOP myself buying more new pretty items that I don't really need.... I do have a mix of brands - some high-end makeup and some pharmacy skincare but don't think it would all exceed about $500 in total. The only true key product is a good sunscreen - that I will not live without! :naughty:

Haha this is what I do. Saves on makeup and all those other beauty projects. I need all the help I can get #thankyoupaperbag I wonder what the spf is on a paper bag?:cheeky:

I'm not a huge makeup person, I rarely wear it. I have the essentials but that's it. But skin care? OMG it's ridiculous . I have tried so many expensive creams, serums and sprays only to toss them later. The weird thing is that basically I like how I look, have zero interest in plastic surgery, but I'm a sucker for a new face lotion.

My husband is the one who looks down at my hands and says "that's a down payment on a house in some places".

That's when you put on the knuckle ring with super ideal cut diamonds, make a fist and hold it up a few inches from his nose and ask how this view of your hand is.

The takeaway is that we should have diamond encrusted knuckle rings... and of course there's something like this out there in the interweb

I'm trying to rein it in for makeup, skincare I just use my beloved Obagi and that's all but I do love makeup and own far too much of it. I tend to use just neutral colours though so that limits my choice ( thankfully).

@Lorelei do you purchase your Obagi line from a dermatologist?
I saw my dermatologist this week and he carries/recommends the "Zo Skin Health" by Obagi.

I get the tretinoin ( 0.1% I use, the strongest) from my derm and I now use the non prescription FX line for the Blender and Clear which you can get more easily online. I've heard of Zo ( apparently made by Dr Obagi?) and tried the sunscreen but not any other products.

Yes it's by Dr. Obagi. I'm thinking of trying the regimen.

I think it's less challenging that the Obagi range itself, I swear by it but you do go red and flake until your skin adjusts. Once it does though, it's amazing, I don't even need foundation anymore.

I'm a stick in the mud about product lines. Once I find something I like I'm loathe to change from it. I swear by Murad and have been using it for the past 7 years, with my skin looking better than ever. Once spring/summer hits I always use their AM lotion with SPF in it. I also have a myriad of "treatments", like line erasers, spot faders, etc. I usually put one on in the morning and a different one at night (in addition to an "Age Reform" night cream.

For make-up, I've been a Bare Escentuals fan for about a dozen years now. Creams always sat so heavy on my skin and made me breakout. I haven't bought any new eye shadow in over five years though. My mom bought me one of those Christmas special packs that had around 20 colors in it, and she died shortly afterwards so I've been hanging on to them for sentimental reasons. But it's to the point that I NEED to update my style. I just have to muster up the courage one day to go to one of their stores and just do it. But I love their product line. It's great for those with sensitive skin.

I took a peek in my bathroom cabinets after seeing this thread and shut the doors. I cannot take the anguish of adding up the cost of all that is in there. My head is in the sand. I should give it all away because I only put makeup on maybe once or twice a week now if I leave the house. The skincare products stay though because I do use those just to keep me from looking like a really old lady. Other than that my horses, dogs, and barn cats care little about what I look like as long as there is food in my hand. :mrgreen2:

I'll see your wrinkled hands and raise them to nurse level. I was always washing my hands and using antibacteria gel. You can feel your skin drying out from that stuff.

I had a “make up kit” obsession for years. I just could not resist those all in one boxes where you get a dozen eyeshows, blushes, lip glosses etc etc. I must have had a hundred of them, all unused sitting in cupboards and drawers.
It’s weird, I have only one foundation, one blush, one eyeshadow and two lipsticks that I actually use!
So I did a massive donation to a women’s group who are helping unemployed women dress nicely for job interviews (I donated a wardrobes worth of business clothes too) and my daughter had her classmates (she’s a no make up girl- how is this even possible if she’s half me?) come over and they too loaded up their bags with my stuff. So cute, I got a pile of lovely thank you notes, one written with my products - ha ha ha.

Sister! My makeup sister! I'm going to pretend I don't have kits and stuff around, new, unused, ;( ignored.
