I think USPS lost my MIL diamond

So I sent my MIL's ring to BGD last week via registered mail for a recut evaluation. The ring still isn't there and the tracking hasn't updated since Jan 30. I'm getting really worried. This is really bad if they lost it because my MIL actually passed away suddenly last October so this diamond has huge sentimental value to me and my husband. How long do I have to wait before I can contact them about it being lost? It was estimated to arrive last Friday BTW.

I would definitely go ahead and call them.

Sorry, it was insensitive of me to only say that. I'm sure it will be located and I'm sorry for the stress!

Honestly it is too soon to panic - it can take anywhere from 5 days to 4 weeks if you are mailing via U.S. domestic registered mail - and the USPS "expected delivery" date printed on the receipt is rarely accurate.

In any case, for domestic Registered Mail, you can file a claim no sooner than 15 days and no later than 180 days, from the date of mailing (PS Form 1000).

I'm sorry it's running late. Sending lots of PS dust that it is located ASAP!!!

Hope everything is okay and the ring shows up. Sometimes tracking isn't updated so hopefully it was one of those situations. Best of luck!

So sorry you are dealing with this. I would certainly give them a call - it can't hurt to get a real-time update. Best of luck!!

It can take a long time. Best to call and check. Trust me this has given me a few scares in the past and never did they lose a stone.

Good luck and keep us posted!! :wavey:

Registered Mail can take up to 15 business days in my experience, even though they tell you 5 days. I've panicked so many times but the packages have always made it. It's probably still en route!

Hi, I also agree with Kaleigh. I have sent stones to BGD before via registered mail and it also got there later than the USPS estimated. I also got panicked but it all worked out!

In my experience, the tracking information and ETA USPS provides are worthless. I would bet that the stone is still safely in transit! Definitely contact them though if you have any concerns.

*EVERYTHING* is taking a longer time to mail than ever before. This I would think is no exception. Their tracking, if you want to call it that, is atrocious, and is something they need to work on if they want to compete. I think you can call and check in. It's only been a week though, numbers wise, and I think it can take up to two weeks in some cases.

In all the registered mail packages I have ever sent, they do NOT update tracking info after the initial shipment until the item is delivered. Unless it has been over 2 weeks, there is absolutely nothing to worry about! It is the safest method to send something. But it can be slow. No reason at all to call at this point. Give it another week.

Thanks everyone! It actually showed up at BGD today! Yay!

Great! Registered mail is always slow.

So sorry for the loss of your MIL.

I'm so glad that it arrived! that is so stressful waiting and wondering what has happened to a VIP package. I'm glad it is there, safe and sound.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your MIL. I hope your family draws strength from each other to get you thru this time. (((HUGS)))

I am sorry about you MIL. I am glad the diamond showed up okay.

Thanks everyone - she was a terrific lady. Either way I am going to have it set as a pendant, probably with a halo of citrine and blue topaz stones (my children's birthstones). We will see what BGD says about the recut option though.
