Okay, so I got super serious on my hunt for the 4-5 carat OEC. I narrowed it down to the final two--waited for the Las Vegas Show to see if anything else would come available, nothing did--then went with one of the two. I decided I liked one better because it was a higher color. In retrospect I bet there is not much difference between the two and I should have had the other one sent and I may still do that, but I am pretty sure this is the one. It faces up a lot whiter (amazingly white!) than what I thought it would.
First let me say how nice Erica and Grace from www.Jewelsbyericagrace.com have been. I love those gals--so helpful and amazingly patient with my hundreds of questions. They have fabulous customer service.
Sooooo the FedEx box arrived this morning! I expected a diamond in a white envelope, wrapped in bubble wrap, but not so! It was delivered to me in a beautiful box all tied up with a bow.
I am a little fearful that the 72.4% depth on this OMB is too deep. Dave Atlas from http://www.datlas.com (whom I've read is a preferred Pricescope appraiser and very knowledgeable on old cut diamonds) was so kind and took a look at the paperwork and photos, but he couldn't tell much of anything--needs to see it in person. He didn't comment on the depth so I assume it isn't a problem as it's a cushion and those tend to be deeper? I plan on FedExing the diamond to him for a more thorough look at it and then I am sure he will give me more advice. I will say that he said the other diamond might be a better performing stone. The side view of that one has me a scaredy cat on the color although he said he didn't think there would be much of a difference between the two. He also offered to take a look at both stones, give me his opinion then appraise one or the other.
Here's the stats: 4.46 carat, VS2, L Color, OMB (this is EGL). Photos are below--and just in case there are more photos and videos of this as well as my second option here: http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.com/Jewelry/Client-Folders/446-AC-409-OEC-289-Tran-Comp/23176879_SG2wTt#!i=1867754714&k=VfT2bF2
I know some of you saw this diamond as well as my other option in Vegas so if you have comments on which one you liked better bring it on!
