Okay, so I got super serious on my hunt for the 4-5 carat OEC. I narrowed it down to the final two--waited for the Las Vegas Show to see if anything else would come available, nothing did--then went with one of the two. I decided I liked one better because it was a higher color. In retrospect I bet there is not much difference between the two and I should have had the other one sent and I may still do that, but I am pretty sure this is the one. It faces up a lot whiter (amazingly white!) than what I thought it would.

First let me say how nice Erica and Grace from www.Jewelsbyericagrace.com have been. I love those gals--so helpful and amazingly patient with my hundreds of questions. They have fabulous customer service. :twirl:

Sooooo the FedEx box arrived this morning! I expected a diamond in a white envelope, wrapped in bubble wrap, but not so! It was delivered to me in a beautiful box all tied up with a bow. :appl:

I am a little fearful that the 72.4% depth on this OMB is too deep. Dave Atlas from http://www.datlas.com (whom I've read is a preferred Pricescope appraiser and very knowledgeable on old cut diamonds) was so kind and took a look at the paperwork and photos, but he couldn't tell much of anything--needs to see it in person. He didn't comment on the depth so I assume it isn't a problem as it's a cushion and those tend to be deeper? I plan on FedExing the diamond to him for a more thorough look at it and then I am sure he will give me more advice. I will say that he said the other diamond might be a better performing stone. The side view of that one has me a scaredy cat on the color although he said he didn't think there would be much of a difference between the two. He also offered to take a look at both stones, give me his opinion then appraise one or the other.

Here's the stats: 4.46 carat, VS2, L Color, OMB (this is EGL). Photos are below--and just in case there are more photos and videos of this as well as my second option here: http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.com/Jewelry/Client-Folders/446-AC-409-OEC-289-Tran-Comp/23176879_SG2wTt#!i=1867754714&k=VfT2bF2

I know some of you saw this diamond as well as my other option in Vegas so if you have comments on which one you liked better bring it on!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

what a lovely stone!!! I saw it in person and woohoo!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

It is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!l

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

The depth is an issue you can assess yourself with your own eyes :)) If the stone is too deep you will find the central facets look dark in most lighting and when your hand is in motion, they might look "lazy", seeming to stay dark more of the time rather than turning "on off" as your hand moves. From the pics it looks fine in that regard and I doubt JBEG would sell an over depp or over dark stone (though if this is a consignment stone then I am unsure if their own personal standards apply?).

Looks like you are headed in the right direction! Where are you located? A bunch of PSer have liked a guy in the LA area. I am blanking on the name.

I'm in Ohio. I don't believe the stone is consignment. And I know what you mean about the stones JBEG has--high performers, all of them.

And thank you Dreamer! Your opinion means a lot to me. I thought from the photos JBEG has that the central facets might be dark, so I prepared myself for that. But they aren't dark at all, what I see in the JBEG photos is the reflection of the camera or Grace's dark hair---those are seen in the uber close up photos. IRL when I see the diamond the central facets are all performing talking their turns at on and off or even all on--I think you can see that from the photos.

Part of me thinks the diamond is a bit too small (I know slap me now!) but I saw it on my daughter's hand and her hands are larger than mine (I'm a size 7, she's at least an 8) and I must say it looks BIG! And you know, too big on those roundish shaped stones and you might as well buy a crystal door knob. :wink2:

Oooh pretty! (This is not helpful advice, I know but. Pretty!)

Patrick Davis?

Oh MDS, it's SOOO PRETTY on you! You don't even see the warmth, right??   HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

Happy birthday, MDS!! And what a fantastic birthday present! I think it looks big and gorgeous! And great that it faces up so white. Do you have a preference on the shape? Looking at the photos it doesn't look like one is larger than the other unless you really magnify the pics.

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

STUNNING! What are your setting plans??? Solitiare??? get both then 1 more and make it a three stone!!!

I agree with Dreamer - at that size, while depth is important, its really all about what your eyes are telling you. It is gorgeous - the JbEG photos are amazing and what facetting!!!

And a very VERY Happy Birthday!! There will never be another birthday present as awesome as this one!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

Wow, I love that stone. Amazing how white an L faces up. Great b-day present...congrats on your great find!

What are the measurements? How about that Kozibe effect?

Happy Blingy Brithday!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

   So beautiful....  Happy Blinging Birthday to you!!!! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

Well I must say it is a beautiful stone as I saw it in Vegas. I had specifically requested Grace bring it for me to see because I was thinking of upgrading my 3ct OEC. I did love it but felt my OEC sang to my heart and the other PSers convinced me to keep mine.

I am jealous though because I wish I could have them both :(( Very proud for you if it's a keeper :appl: Happy birthday!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

Brightice! Your ring is perfect...don't dare mess with perfection!!!

How fantastic that others just saw the diamond this weekend, though! Erica and Grace could probably sell a few every year if they'd bring some to LV!

MDS...it is beautiful and definitely looks whiter in pictures than one would think! And no way does it look small...it is HUGE!!!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

I think you picked the best stone :)) It's a beauty, congrats! And happy birthday!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

MDS, I'm glad you finally opened that box! :cheeky: That thing is goegeous, and HUGE!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

So, yesterday, I wore the diamond around for a bit, with the tweezer ring thingie, just to get a feel for the size, shape and color. I envisioned wearing it around white doing my daily tasks, and perhaps wearing it out to dinner, etc. After about 2 hours of wearing it I kind of forgot I had it on, was in the kitchen, washed my hands, dried with a towel, then looked down and no diamond! A 4.46 diamond might look big on the hand but I assure you a loose diamond is very small and it could have gone anywhere--down the drain, into a cup of coffee sitting in the sink, in fact, did I loose it before washing my hands??? It could be anywhere  ....Luckily, the towel was still in my hand when I noticed said diamond was gone, so I put the towel on the counter and carefully unfolded it and there was the diamond. :appl: I took the diamond off after that and I am not wearing it until it is set--and a note to any of you buying loose diamonds--the tweezer thingie is not all that secure. Don't say I didn't warn ya. ;)

vinjewels: Thank you! JBEG always takes the best photos and video--it gives a good glimpse of how beautiful the diamond is in person.

Skippy: Thank you. I'm so glad you got to see it in person. My husband says don't expect birthday gifts like this every year. :wink2:

armywife13: Tag! You're it! I know you are working on getting that huge OEC--I can't wait to see it in August! And thank you so much, I couldn't agree more--AMAZING is right! :)

Dreamer_D: Thank you so much for letting me know about the depth. I've been nervous about it. I never know how much stock I should put in ASET and IS images, or whether I should just use my eyes. On a purchase this large I tend to want to do everything I can to make sure I've gotten an A+ diamond.

distracts: Thank you! :)

madelise: Is Patrick Davis for the setting? Or is he the LA guy for OEC's?

Kim N: Thank you for the birthday wishes! My preference for shape has always been round and although I set out to buy an OEC, this OMB reads as round when not viewed at uber close/ camera distance. My daughter who loves Princess cut thought it was round, she had to do a double take. I really preferred the cool white it had as opposed to the warm/ cream color of the OEC--well as far as I could see from photos that is. Other than cut, I wasn't sure what the exact differences were between the two cuts. Grace told me that the OMB had broader chunkier flashes of light and the OEC has smaller, twinklier flashes. When I tried on the Tiffany 4.38 carat MRB (the photo I posted for size comparison) it had very small twinklies, which I didn't like at all. The bolder, bigger, chunkier is what I was after.

Enerchi: Thank you! As far as setting: I'm really leaning towards a simple solitaire with a diamond eternity band--The Tiffany's "The Engagement Rings & Wedding Bands" catalog had a photo of a set I adore--page 36--although I think I prefer a shared prong instead of a channel set eternity. The Sophie is a pretty solitaire! The other part of me that knows I will wear this ring all day long every day says I should do a bezel--maybe a Julia bezel or something similar. Grace from JBEG mentioned a setting and for the life of me I can't think of what the name was--it was also a bezel. If I can't find what I want quickly I may just do a temporary solitaire until I decide. If you have any ideas please post them.

ariel144: Thanks! I too am amazed at how this L faces up so white. I'll get back to you on the measurements, the papers aren't with me right now--I think it is 9.91mm. Yes, the Kozibe effect is crazy in this diamond. I love the look of it close up, but I am not so sure if I like the look from a distance--it seems to break up the chunky flashes--but maybe that's what gives this diamond what I call an inner glow?

Mayk: Thanks! And thank for the birthday wishes too. :)

bright ice: I've seen your OEC and it's beyond gorgeous! No way I'd upgrade on a stone that beautiful! I sure wish I could have spoken with you before I made my purchase. I really wanted to get all of the opinions I could for those who saw the 4.46 along with the 4.09--if you saw both and have thoughts please let me know. Maybe looking at too many just adds to the confusion? Hmmm....I really could kick myself for not having both shipped--but honestly I picked the one I thought would look best with a halo or an eternity--which was the most white of the two stones. You know, I just saw someone bezel a 3+ carter and it makes it look like it's a carat larger for sure!

diamondseeker2006: Thanks! Yep, it is amazing how those L's don't as low in color as I always imagined. Of course this is EGL so who knows what color it really is. I'll find out in a few days and post.

Dee*Jay: Awww, thank you! I know, I know, I do so much research before I purchase anything that I just didn't want to be disappointed. I think I waited over 2 hours to open that box. Seems silly now....lol.

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

Oh my, I am glad you found the diamond. That must have been scary!

I am so happy you found a diamond that you love. This cushion is to die for! Yummmm :lickout: A solitaire will really let this baby shine and be the center of attention. The Sophie is beautiful, for an AC/OMC it has always been my first choice. However, I definitely feel you on wanting to wear the ring all day and wanting it to be safe. Bezels do a great job of that, and they do add some visual weight....that 3+ct bezel ring is a great example! ;))

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

La-ti-da! That is a magnificent diamond! So glad it didn't get away from you!

Re: I think this is the one! Fed Ex delivers today for my B-

I spent some time with hit this weekend. And it was lovely and it faced up with a lovely color.

Bright Ice, I think you made the right choice. Are you still getting those earrings?

That said, and with knowing that I am going to sound like I have a stick up my backside, I just want to say that Erica and Grace brought a lot of stuff because we asked them to, and because they know how much PSers love to play with bling. The stuff they brought was there in the spirit of sharing (they let me wear on of their broaches all night as a pendant and I felt very lucky), not in the spirit of turning the LV GTG into a commercial event. Wink also brought some wonderful stuff (that we can't post) that was SO MUCH FUN to play with. But I really loved that Leon and Jeff Averbook felt comfortable stating up front that they were there to socialize, not do business. And that even though John Pollard and Gary, and Wink and Dave (and the list goes on and on) were willing and generously answered questions and chat with us about our pieces and loupe them and advise us on our quandaries (should I upgrade it? Should I change the setting), they too always (last year as well) see this as a social event and not as a commercial one. I would REALLY hate to see that change, and to see vendors bring goods to the GTGs hoping to sell them, because that's not what these events, to me, are about.

So... I'll step off my soap box. But I really did feel that it was important to say my peace on that (and DS I know you were just kidding, but it sparked something in me).

Ha, I think that's the first time I've ever heard you say anything nice about Leon, lol.

The stone looks amazing, I love it!!

Oh, and Patrick Davis is an appraiser in LA. I liked him.

Thanks for answering for me TGal :) I don't know if DreamerD was thinking of an appraiser for OP or not because I can't think of any larger/pro vendors for OECs in LA besides JbEG? Either way :P She's not in LA so :)

OP, do you have more photos for us? I'm so glad you found your diamond. I would have had a massive heart attack if I looked down and saw an empty diamond holder. :o
