Did some shopping around today and I found a stone in my price range with the different parameters I was looking for....tell me what you guys think.

Round Brilliant
7.68-7.73 x 4.72mm
Carat 1.7
Color G
Clarity SI2
Cut Excellent
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very Good
Floures. None
Table 56%
Depth 61.3%
Crown 35.5 Deg
Pavill 40.6 Deg
Girdle Thin - Slightly Thick

As far as the SI2 goes, it looked eye clean and took me a few seconds with the loop to find the small crystal it has. The only reason I think it might have received an SI2 rating is b/c when flipped over on the pavilion it had about 3 small carbon spots that could be seen with the loop. The jeweler had a H&A scope and you could clearly see the arrows and the hearts on the bottom. Using the H&A scope is when I noticed the carbon spots but if I wouldn''t have asked him to use it I probably would have never noticed it... Is it always a good idea to look at the stone with the loop while the stone is upside down??

They are going to set the stone for me on a 6 prong setting similar to the tiffany solitaire setting. I might modify the setting a little but as far as the stone goes I think its a real nice stone...tell me what you guys think.

It has definite potential, as you have seen it and loved it thats the main thing! What are the grade making inclusion/s for this diamond such as feathers, clouds etc on the report? I always loupe a diamond as thoroughly as I can so I think thats a good thing to check it from all angles.

According to the GIA report there is a crystal just right of the center of the diamond and three feathers towards the outside of the diamond near the girdle. The reasoning is probably b/c of the location of the crystal but even knowing where it was...I had to really look for it using the loop. The jeweler mentioned to me that on his notes he had written "mistake" b/c he felt the grading was wrong for such a clean stone. Does the gia focus on the clarity from the back side also..or just focus on the clarity of the stone from the top side?

Looks good then. :)

GIA grades clarity from the top with a 10x loupe. There is another thread around where Garry H mentioned that they find the inclusions at 30x and then grade at 10x. Sounds like you found a very eye clean SI2--congrats.

Clarity grading is done face up so that sounds fine if the feathers don''t break the surface of the girdle.
