1. Is this a good diamond? (I know everyone asks this, but who wouldn''t want to know?)
2. How much do you think you would purchase this diamond resale?

Who did she buy it from and does she have the cut analysis images of the diamond available?

She bought it from GOG, and I don''t even know wha cut analysis images are! May I ask her for it, and get back to you?

Ask her to see the paperwork and images that GOG provide such as Diamxray, ASET if she has them - what a great opportunity for you! I am curious, as some of those diamonds are eligible for upgrade with GOG, didn''t she want to use it to get a larger diamond? Just being nosey!

Oh I KNOW! I wondered the same! I think it''s because she already has her ideal e-ring, the regent was for a RHR, and she was going to make earrings and then they don''t have regents anymore so hard to source the same diamond size in something that no longer exists? Not quite sure if that was the actual story, but I think that''s what it is! I will ask her for those! GAH I''m so excited!

Lorelei! I got the info all in an attachment in my email! Would it be terribly inconvenient if I asked you for your email and sent you the report she sent me? I don''t know how to post things at all!

okie! =) That''s all I got!

Thank you so much for helping me so far! Do I need to ask for anything else? Is this enough to judge good/bad?

I think it looks like a lovely diamond and how wonderful that you can get it discounted from your friend! Will GOG still honor the upgrade policy with the stone? I''d personally go for it!

Ditto and KC makes a good point ( as it is always nice to have options!) would GOG honour an upgrade policy or is it non transferable?

Well done on posting the images!

She says that she has no or Diamxray, ASET. Is this bad?

This stuff is all a mystery to me!!! I''m hoping you diamond geniuses will tell me that this diamond is amazing, and then trust you guys =) These reports go right over my sad little head!!

So, does anyone want to estimate how much they would pay for this?

Insurance appraisal around $6000, she paid around $4500. How much resale value do you think it is ?

Thank you both so much for your help! I don''t know about the upgrade policy, but that part isn''t super important to me because this might be THE ONE, and I''d be sad to replace my engagement diamond! This is the first and only diamond I''ll probably ever buy, so it''s super important to me!!

Does anyone see anything I should be wary of, or should I "pull the trigger"?

No worries, I was just mentioning some of the info that might have come with the diamond, it looks like you have the full deal there! I would see about getting an appraiser to look at the diamond to check it over before you pull the trigger, it is unlikely to be damaged but just to make sure the diamond is in good shape etc, so you have peace of mind with your purchase - this is common procedure to get an appraisal, here is a tool you can use to find an appraiser in your area.

I mentioned getting an appraisal, and she said it would cost $200, and you're right, maybe I shouldget it appraised again just to make sure! She claims there are no damages. She suggested these people for an appraisal- http://www.jewelry-appraisal.com/index.htm.

By the way, what price is fair for this diamond? She's asking $3600?

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help so far! It's so... so unbelievably helpful!

A couple last questions!! Ahh! i''m so sorry, but this is really important to me!

1. What else should I be watching out for?
2. What types of inclusions are these?

One last question! The girdle seems really thick? Is this bad?

3600 seems fair if she paid 4500 gog would buy it back for 3400...
vs2 so the type of inclusions don''t matter much...
An appraisal to check for damage is a good idea.

What I think I would do is make an appointment with the appraiser, meet there, you with a certified check her with the diamond.
The appraiser says no damage you pay for the diamond and the appraisal and your good to go.
If damage is found then the other party pays for the appraisal and you go your way and they turn it into their insurance.

Nancy Stacy has a great reputation here so she would be a good appraiser to use for this.

Your advice is so wise!! Thank you so much! I feel so relieved, I think I''m going to BUY IT!

OH! I thought of one last question!

Karl, how do you know how much GOG will buy back a piece for? Do they have a set formula of sorts?
Do you know how much GOG takes as a commission on pieces sold on consignment?
