Hi there... my first post. This community comes highly recommended!

My girlfriend and I leave for vacation in two weeks, and it''s during that trip that I plan to pop the question... and naturally I procrastinated on the diamond purchase until just the last week or so. Fortunately a friend did a lot of legwork on this kind of purchase a year ago - including recommending this forum.

I went to a recommended seller and said that I wanted to pay $8000-10,000 for a round diamond in a simple setting (for now). I indicated that I cared more about cut and carat than color and clarity. If it isn''t visible to the naked eye, I don''t really care about it. For color and clarity I''m intersted in the "value" ranges - e.g., G/H and VS2/SI1.

I think I found a winner at about $8200 but would love feedback; here are the vitals:

Measurement: 7.11 - 7.14 x 4.44 mm
Cut Grade: AGS Ideal 0
Color: AGS 2.0 (H)
Clarity: AGS 5 (SI1)
Carat: 1.386

Few other specs:

Total depth: 62.3% 4.45mm
Table size: 54.0%

I''ve attached a picture.

What more would be useful?

Thanks so much,
Melky

It looks as if it could be good - the crown and pavillion angles would be useful if you want to add them, it is obviously a lovely diamond! The depth is a little more than my ideal, but still acceptable. Does it have any fluorescence and what is the girdle thickness?

In order to really give any meaningful feedback, it would be helpful to know the crown/pavilion angles and the girdle info.

As Lorelei noted, the depth exceeds my personal preference level as well. Having said that, though, I don''t see much else in this range, so it may not be a dealbreaker. The rest of the information would be helpful.

Thanks for your help and sorry for the delay in responding... work and technical problems got in the way. Attached is another picture and here is some more detail:

Crown angle: 34.3 degrees
Crown height: 15.5%
Pavil angle: 40.9 degrees
Pavil depth: 42.8%
Culet: 0.4%
Girdle thickness: 3.9%
Proportion: 0

Flouresence: None (according to AGS report)

According to Gemex report:
White light: High
Color light: Very high
Scintillation: Between high and very high

Thanks again!
Marc

Looks like a nice 1.5 on the HCA. And a decent Gemex. Is this at Good Old Gold by any chance?

Have you seen this in person? If not you can always call them and they will tell you honestly what to expect from the stone.

When I finally bought mine (from Whiteflash, but I would feel just as comfortable going with GOG) I ended up buying and having it set sight-unseen. Is that what you are going to do? If so, I would just make sure it was a vendor you have a lot of trust and confidence in (and who has a really good return and upgrade policy).

Best,

Haven''t seen it yet but will see it first thing Monday morning. That''s not the retailer but they come highly recommended and I''ve enjoyed my experience with them so far.
