Yesterday I was looking to buy a round diamond for my wife. Now she wants an emerald! I was looking to buy a 2 carat round and was about to spend upward to 80k.

Now I am looking for a perfect type emerald 2 carat. Can anyone help like all of you great people did yesterday? Is their a Holloway Cut Adviser for emeralds?

Again, I learned so much yesterday and would appreciate any input you may have on my new search.

Regards,
Gary

Wait, you were going to spend $80,000.00 on a 2ct?

I would very seriously call Jonathan at Good Old Gold and have him call some stones in for you. Last year, Kaleigh was looking for a 2 ct. oval to make a three-stone ring and he brought in a few and videotaped them for her. You need pictures of an emerald cut stone. Fancy shapes are not as easy to buy by the numbers as rounds are.

Emerald shape is also cheaper than rounds. You can get probably closer to 3.5-4 ct for the same amount.

So, I helped you the least. Sorry.

I''m back like a bad penny. Three options:

This one...an emerald allowing you to spend more with clarity you won''t need, probably.

This emerald...with VS2, probably sufficient. With either of these...one wants to know if BN''s selecting them as signature ideal is helpful. For example, were they selected because of numbers, or some other "seen" characteristic.

Then, on the chance your wife could have meant Princess as well as emerald...there is this one, which is a higher sized 2 carat, allowing you to invest a bit more. I''m not in love with the ASET, but all these 2 + carats from WF are not what I might ideally expect. Still, it must pass muster at both AGS & WF to be named 0 and ACA, so...a good shot.

Or...the only emerald appearing on the search by cut db is at GOG, but it''s like a 1 carat. First choice is really to call him, and see what he can do.

Good continued searching...

Ira, you did help me by getting me to talk further with my wife. So here we go again! But iy is really is an interesting journey and I am meeting many fine people along the way. I will now check out your recommendations.
Regards,
Gary

I don''t know much about emeralds but I think this one looks nice (and remember that emeralds face up smaller than rounds so you can go a bit bigger for the same look)

mrklaig1, because you want to spend a lot of money on this gift, and because yesterday you wanted to RB and today your wife wants an EC, how about this as a strategy...Take your wife shopping this weekend. Make a day out of it. Go to all the nice high end shops near where you live and have her try on as many rings as she can. All different shapes and sizes AND have her look at D-FL/IF as well as other combos such as F VVS/VS, etc. and let her tell you if she can see a difference or if there is a combo of grading that strikes her fancy. Look at the settings as well. Does she like a solitaire, side stones, pave, etc. Then, after you know those answers, come back here and tell us what her ultimate preference is, making sure she knows that is what you will be looking for, and narrow it down more seriously. Just a suggestion.

Yes, but only because he wanted an IF D or E if I remember correctly. IF adds a HUGE premium.

From his previous post, I got the impression that he want''s his wife to have "the best" with this new diamond he''s purchasing. That would be D color and Flawless clarity. We may all think this is overkill, but sometimes, you just want to get the best, regardless of price.

I agree. Diamondseekers suggestion for Goodoldgold is a great one. they can do amazing things with their technology when buying a stone long distance which is so helpful with fancy shapes. Also, I'd have her check out Pearlmans website just to get a good look at all the amazing settings/rings available today.

Does your wife want an emerald cut diamond or an emerald? I wasn''t sure from your post...
