Just for future reference ......

no no no no no no F-ing no way girl !
you are keeping that necklase in the 2nd pictute and it is never to be sold !

im sorry i forget what it is but as soon as i saw it i remembered it !

I can’t believe you’re parting with the “ring that replaced the trip” ring!

Yeah, I remember that story!
Tell us the story again, @Bron357 !

I know, it’s just that, in what 42 years, I’ve worn it only a handful of times and seeing as it now longer fits, back then I was a size 6 or so, and DD doesn’t like it at all.
Yes, all those years of saving pocket money, birthday money, part time job money for the BIG overseas trip with my bestest girlfriend after graduation. The fatal “falling out” with bestest girlfriend and the trip being cancelled. Me with $3,500 going into a fancy jewellers in the City and recklessly buying the ring with all my money.
The trip home after purchase, about an hour, had me realising “eek, my mother will kill me” so I hid the ring in my sock drawer for probably 2 months, maybe 3, before I finally got the courage up to show it to my mother.
It went exactly as I feared, she went absolutely ballistic.
My goodness, I was 18 and sent to my room in disgrace, “we’ll see what your father has to say when he gets home”.
$3,500 then is like I guess $15,000 now?
She got even more cranky when she realised I’d had it for months so it couldn’t be returned for a refund.
So in all these 42 years since I’ve made sure to keep it out of her sight lest it set her off again ha ha. I told her a few weeks ago I’d taken the ring in for cleaning, polishing and valuation.
She didn’t exactly laugh, but she did recall her utter disbelief, back then, that I would spend so much money so frivolously when I was “such a sensible girl”.
The one benefit is that the trip, if I’d done it, would be long lost back in my memories (I did subsequently do overseas trips - overrated ha ha, I’m a home body) but instill have something of value.
I won’t “give it away” but it’s a nice 5 odd carat yellow sapphire with 2 carats of lovely blues in 18ct gold so someone out there might love it.

I’m sad your mom is still sour about it after all these years! When I was a kid I put my mom’s gold bangle around the cat’s neck. I wanted her to look regal. One day the bangle got stuck and there was no getting it off. My dad tried Vaseline (face palm). It didn’t work. We had to go to the fire department and they had to cut it off. My mom was furious at the time. But years later we had learned to laugh about it.

Did you ever patch things up with the friend?

The ring is still gorgeous!

What a great story about a great love for jewelry!:kiss2:

This is hysterical!
Cats love jewelry, so I'm sure she didn't mind:lol-2::lol-2::lol-2:
Except for the Vaseline and the firemen.....

Yes she was a black cat so the gold contrast looked pretty. I would put it on her regularly (w/out mom’s knowledge obvi) but one day it wouldn’t come off! My mom yelled (imagine Southern accent here) - “All I have now is a broken bracelet and a greasy cat!!”

I once removed all the stones from one of my mom's rings.
It was her grandmother's ring, a green and clear glass cluster in 10k. In the process, I lost one of the clear stones, so I replaced it with a blob of glue. (!?) Years later, she noticed, but I never fessed up......

Let the unloading begin!

I would go nuts with that many pieces...my brain gets clogged up when I have too much of anything! I'm weird that way!:loopy:

Same. I wear the same things over and over. I think I’m done for a while.

Where can I find the listings for your preloved items? I particularly love your butterfly necklace.

That butterfly necklace is to die for!

can I call 2nd dibs?

love the story about the girlfriend. Part of me wants you to keep the ring anyways

I love the beaded opal necklaces and the colorful beaded necklace. Everything is so gorgeous!

Timely post! I just itemized 90 percent of my collection and I really don’t know how to digest my findings yet.
Let’s see the numbers (quantity) per category? Maybe I’ll have the guts to post mine… you show me yours I’ll show you mine!

Don’t add up their value !
I have always prioritized buying jewellery over everything else. It’s been a passion and a hobby all my life.
My sister on the other hand has been more inclined to spend on experiences and spa days and latest fashion and fancy nights out, weekends away and travel.
While I’ve done those things as well it wasn’t a priority for me and I’ve only ever spent very modestly on “other things”.
Considering we’ve earnt similar salaries over the decades while I’m shocked to realise I’ve spent a few hundred **** on jewellery, she has spent similar and has nothing of substance to show for it.
The big benefit with my passion and hobby is that has given me and continues to gives me “the feel goods” “the happys” yet I can “cash it all in” and still have my money!
So jewellery collectors unite, we’ve had our fun and STILL have most our money !

I relate to all of this. Well said!!
