do you see nice fire (rainbow flashes) readily? scintillation(combo of fire/brillance when moving about?) or mostly just brillance - sorry this is just a short test.Date: 8/7/2009 10:13:19 PM

PS the only light I have looked at them in is...the store, natural daylight, and my bathroom...

Bright, Bright lighting will make even the worse cut diamond sparkle while burning out your retinas, but truly well cut diamonds don''t need to be pumped full of light to perform exceptionally. The late great Rock Doc (Graduate Gemologist Bill Lieberman) used to like to take a diamond into a dark closet and run a lit match around the perimeter by a foot or so to determine how well the diamond would perform when practically starved for light... I don''t believe that Sarap''s concern involved the visual performance of her Infinity cut diamond, but rather the effect that the store lighting had upon the color of her M color diamond which apparently did not mesh well with the blue dichromatic filters employed by the jewelry store in their lighting scheme.
I haven't tried it either. . . just need to go buy some matches. I wonder if a lighter works just as well?Date: 8/7/2009 10:52:33 PM

I'm not sure if you have gone through this tutorial about fire/brillance/scintillation but just in case... but really images of diamond and specs would be able to tell a lot, glad you're getting the appraisal done

Yeah, funny thing is I''ve been working up my inventory for my renter''s insurance. Probably should get that in order before playing around!!!Date: 8/7/2009 11:10:47 PM

Don''t worry it just takes time to learn all the variables in a diamond. If you love it- you have seen it, which you have in your possession, that is all that matters but in any case, do have a splendid time in Hawaii!Date: 8/8/2009 9:49:16 AM

Ok I read it...but trust me it was like reading from a law library! LOL I went into the closet-with my lighter too--still jsut as confused as before..
Oh well...if I can find a jewler to appraise today I will....if not I''ll have to wait until Monday...Then I will (hopefully) beon my way to Hawaii next week for vacation!![]()
