so-so cut
egl cert

is it eyeclean?
Is it cheap?

It should have a nice discount on it cuz of the cert and the cut.
If it was me id find something better cut with a gia or ags cert.

Last on in the solitaire setting.

22500.00 CAD = 18850.00 USD in the above 14Kt white setting.

i think strm was being kind with ''so so cut''
all of the pics have the same off center darkness on one side. not a coincidence.
of course, if you just want big and cheap, this would qualify.

Something is fishy to me at that price unless there are unusual circumstances that are giving you a good deal. I smell a generously graded certificate. You should always be careful with EGL, but you should be especially cautious at SI2, since you could really be getting an I1. From a quick search on Blue Nile, a 3.01 G SI2 GIA-graded good cut round with good/good symmetry and polish is $31,000: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD00451097&filter_id=0. Fishy.

Gotta agree. Not looking good to me....

Thought the deal sounded to good.

For around $18,500 you could get a GIA or AGS G SI2 in an excellent cut at above 2 carats though. Not sure what you''re upgrading from and if you wanted the wow factor of 3+, but if you stick with the better cuts the diamond will be very impressive, much more so than a bigger but lifeless stone.

I''m not loving that stone. It looks very flat. Sorry.

Scintillating...

My goodness. I have to agree with everyone else. I think you could do so so much better.

A carefully chosen, well cut stone (preferably with a GIA report) would be so brilliant and spectacular that it would "look" more impressive, even though probably smaller than this one....

The tweezers look nicer than the stone in the second picture.

Well, you can only go up from here!

lol...i was actually thinking ''wow...those are some crisp, shiney tweezers!'' when i first saw the pics.
it is pretty sad when the tweezers look better than the rock.

I like it, it looks pretty in my opinion. Is that a good price for what it is ? Looks great in the ring setting. It's impossible to really see what a diamond looks like in a picture in my opinion.

Says the guy who bought a 3 ct J SI2 for 11.5K

Sorry Sphritz, this diamond is so lifeless, the symmetry is off, and it doesn't 'sing'.....the bigger the diamond the more glaringly obvious it is.

If you want a big rock, you will have to up the budget considerably to find a good one, probably to upwards of $30k, or go smaller and get a well cut 2 carat or so. Also you might have to be patient finding a bigger diamond, larger sizes are as rare as hens teeth now.

I am sorry, but you asked for honest opinions, you can do much better! Also it doesn't look eyeclean to me, it looks like there is a large white inclusion around half of the diamond.

...or stretch for a virtual H SI 1 at over 2 carats and over 8 centimeters at $18,212 for wire pricing (these options Jim makes available do give you a chance to see inclusions, actually...and this one...has a pretty noticeable inclusion). Note, though, that only VS2 will give you reasonable protection against visible inclusions. Maybe if called in, it won't be too noticeable. Of course, there are others here, too (though, unless you'll stay at SI2, will not be over 2 carats, based on the search by cut db here, and staying at H and better).

(eta) then again, rogue's right...and especially staying with this same vendor, considering SI2, you could get almost 8.5 centimeters, and a G, and if you go that way, you might ask for Jim's help comparing, getting a potentially purdy AGS0.

Thanks all. Took all your advise and decided to buy a stone from my local diamond wholesaler here in town where I was actually able to physically see the stone with my own eyes. I raised the budget, my wife is worth it after putting up with me for 25 years. I bought a GIA certified 3.45 Radiant cut ( she prefers the Radiant to the Round) VS1 I Color Very Good Cut. Had them set it in simple Solitaire White Gold setting as it is a suprise and she can change the setting if she wishes. I will post some pictures when I get the ring. Thanks again for everyones help and suggestions.

Great decision and congratulations! Look forward to the pics
