Okay, give us a bit more information about you. Are you a guy, trying to determine what a woman would choose?

The thing is, some of those styles are modern/architectural, others are romantic/vintage in look. There''s a vast difference in what people prefer. Every woman is different; although the biggest trend today is toward the vintage look. And out of those rings shown, I prefer the more delicate rings myself. But I would probably not choose any of them; they don''t ''speak'' to me; know what I mean?

im a guy and im looking engagement ring for my gf. She is 24, nice smart and funny, i guess she likes original and nice things. Its hard to not notice her, i guess my friend r jealous that i have soo amazing future wife!! Is it easier now to help me??

I think we''ll need a little more information than that. For example, which stores does she like to shop at? Does she like to dress in simple lines or does she like a lot of detail? Is her house decorated in more modern style or very traditional or with vintage pieces? Does she own a lot of jewelry? What do those pieces look like? That should at least help you narrow down her style a little more.

or this??...

i like #5 and #6 the most

I think since your GF will be wearing the ring, her opinion is the only one that matters. there are several different styles you''ve got there, i love some of them and don''t like others. maybe propose with temp ring and let her choose her own setting?

she likes bebe, banana republic, guess, nine west, black n white etc. She prefer elegant/sporty/sexy clothes. She is not for sure type of ''''gray mouse''''. Her aparament is looks rather modern, she would be really good designer cause all friends ask her to help in decoration and choosing colors to rooms. She has a lot o jewelry like every woman i think. I guess she is not vintage type, she loves girlie but pretty and unique, rather modern/classy things. She loves to shine but im sure she doesnt like big old princess rings like my grandma use to wear.

Of all the different pics you posted, the one that totally stands out to me is in the 2nd batch, the middle ring. It just has the look of timelessness and but is still modern enough for a contemporary gal!

I see that you prefer the three stone rings just by looking at the pictures...

This would help me and maybe others help you:

- Does she like 3 stone rings?
- Does she like yellow, white, yellow and white, rose gold, or platinum?
- Does she like solitaires?
- Big/small center diamond?
- Very blingy or understated?
- Round, square, cushion, heart, triangle, oval shaped stones/diamonds?
- Does she like diamonds or colored gem stones?
- Delicate or thick band?
- Diamonds on the band or no diamonds?
- High or low center stone?
- Modern or traditional?
- New or antique?

Is there a reason you do not want your gf's input on the ring?

Ok, with the info you have (or lack of

) I would suggest you purchasing the best cut stone, at a good size, around the 1ct mark (depends on your budget) and then have it set in a temp setting for the proposal. You can then go and pick a permanent setting together. I don''t mean to offend, but you don''t seem to be 100% sure of what your gf really wants, and this is not just any present. Have a search on some threads here and you will find many disappointed ladies who were thrilled with their proposals but not with the ring their darlings picked out. Many woman feel they don''t want to disappoint their new fiance''s by not loving the ring, then secretly not love the ring.

I would also suggest purchasing from a vendor that has an excellent return and upgrade policy, just in case you are totally off base. Try Whiteflash or Good Old Gold.

I don''t mean to sound like a party pooper, but you are swimming in an ocean when it comes to picking an engagement ring. Some woman have dreamt of their erings for their whole lives, and I am sure you don''t want her to be disappointed. Picking a fantastic stone in a simple setting is the best of both worlds I think, you get to suprise her with a killer stone and then you can both be 100% sure the setting is the right one!

Good luck!!

HERE is a beautiful diamond preset into a master craftsman''s micropave ring that I think many of us would love to have. I don''t know if its around your budget, but it''s very high quality, blingy, yet tasteful, and in a very current style.

I agree with Honey22. Whatever your budget is, subtract ~$2000 for a setting and purchase a nice round stone with the leftover cash. Propose with the stone in a temp setting (so it's still a surprise), and pick the setting out together.

There are so many choices there it''s hard to figure out what I might even like, let alone another person.

I think you need to start with a budget and figure out what size stone you want as a center stone first. If you realise, for example, that you have a $8K budget, want a 1 carat center stone, and these settings are around $4K then it might not add up. Or if you want a 1/2 carat center stone but the settings might over-power the center stone.

After you figure out a budget, shape, and size of a center stone start looking for setting to compliment that stone. A cushion or oval, which are more unique shapes so it may fit her personality type, may not look as good in the settings as a round or princess.

Once you''ve limited it more it''ll be much easier to truly sort through what you think she might like...or, of course, you could just ask her

.

Personally I think the tension set looking rings in the first post are quite over-powering and I usually like tension set rings. But that''s just me. It may truly fit her style and taste and your budget.

The third ring in the second grouping is timeless. It''s elegant but it''s still very now, very current, it''s feminine and yet has flair. I don''t think you can go really wrong with something like that.

I would suggest going to a few stores and looking at the different styles in person so that you can narrow down your search. Perhaps seeing some of the styles you posted on the hand of a sales person would help you to narrow it down.. just a thought.

From the stores you listed, I like #2 in the second batch...is it an RKG ring? Looks really, really similar to my setting (which I absolutely love). Modern and classic at the same time.

ETA: Also - think about the wedding band. Most women want their band to lay flat against the engagement ring. Some styles of e-ring look AMAZING on their own, but pairing the wedding band with that ring is more difficult. I'd choose a setting where she has several options to personalize her ring with her band.

And - ask her friends.

Does your GF know that you''re looking? If so, ask her to pick out her favorite top 5. If she doesn''t know you''re looking, you can always go ahead and get a really amazing diamond in a simple setting, with the idea of resetting it after the proposal. That way you can keep it a surprise and keep her happy.

The rings you picked out all have their own unique style- just like women. Ask 10 women what they like, and you''ll get 10 different styles.

Some women like bezel settings, some like a ton of pave'', some like simple solitaires, some prefer fancy cuts, some prefer yellow gold... there are a lot of styles out there for a reason... I''d try and get a better idea of what she would like!

... but you can''t go wrong buying a great diamond!

my budget is only 2-3 k

, i know all of those rings i showed she would like cause our friend checked it.

$2-3K is a realistic price for an engagement ring. But I imagine that some of the settings that you posted are easily that alone. Or, if not, might overwhelm a stone that fits your budget. Have you researched the price of any of these settings?

For that budget, you should probably spend most of it on the diamond and get a plain setting for now. You are looking at a .75-.85 ct. ideal cut stone in H-I color, Vs2-SI1, approximately (for close to $3000). Then get a $200 plain tiffany setting in white gold. Diamond settings like those in decent quality are going to often cost as much as your whole budget. I think guys don''t really understand how much engaement rings really cost. But go ahead and go for a nice diamond as you can always buy her a better setting that SHE chooses later on. I recommend Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash for quality diamonds since I have had personal experience with both.

I checked, all of em r still in my budget

I was playing around on a couple of websites and found a .56 at GOG for $1663 (or $1607 by bank wire - more money to spend elsewhere) and a several blingy ring choices for about $1,300 or less. The look is possible, you may just need to shop around a bit. It was a quick and dirty look around.

If you let us know which way you''re headed; bigger rock, plain setting or smaller rock, blingy setting we can help you start looking for ideas or settings that may fit your price range. I''d say that which choice you make on where to spend more money might depend on if you plan to upgrade in the future or not. If so, it''s silly to spend too much on a setting that wouldn''t fit a newer, larger stone.

Missed this before I posted, that''s great news! Does it leave you enough left over for a rock that is a size that you''re please with?

it doesnt matter if it will be big rock and plain setting ar small with a lot of small stones...it has to be amazing , thats all

Hi Elivin, congratulations on your upcoming engagement.

First of all, I would suggest slowing down a bit. You offered up a huge handful of rings, all of which were lovely. While some rings are similar in style (classic, modern, vintage) you really offered up every design style displaying that you have not yet narrowed down your taste in engagement rings, or hers. For that reason alone I would probably suggest starting over. Getting an education in diamonds and design by either spending time on PS or store hopping, that way, when the time does come for you to "bite the bullet" you''ll not only be making an informed decision, but a sure one at that!

Lets b honest...not **all** of those rings were inside your budget. Looking at the pictures alone, some of those center diamonds are well over a carat...which is outside of your budget...and those setting, whew. Before I read your whole post, looking just at what you put out there, I guessed your budget to be closer to 15,000 or so. Now, that is not to say you cannot find a drop-dead-beautiful engagement ring for 2-3,000...but, thats why you have to shop. The ladies on this site are a great resource, and have helped meny guys pick out the right winning diamond for their FF with much success. As you can see, they have already helped you locate diamonds that are of outstanding quality that would still give you money to play with when it comes to finding the right setting.

Lastly, asking "which ring is the best for an engagement ring" is a toughy. If you have time, look through the vast photo gallery of engagement rings hosted on this site. For every user there is a different diamond...a different taste...and different design. When you pick your FF ring, you''ll know whats the right one. You laid out a smoregas board of bling...and asked "what now"...women who love vintage will go that way, woman who love tension will follow suit as well... so I guess it goes back to knowing what YOU want....and starting from there, if that makes sense.

Good luck, and I wish you the best as you embark on this really exciting, really special time!
