I need to whine!!! :o(

DH is currently redoing all of the plumbing in our house. The house is about 100 years old, and some of the pipes were starting to leak here and there. He figured he'd just do it all now, since he had to do a little bit of it anyway because we're in the process of remodeling our downstairs bathroom. But, this means that we've had NO RUNNING WATER since early this afternoon, and it won't be turned back on until tomorrow morning at the earliest! So, this means no showering, no tooth brushing, no hand washing, no toilet flushing . . . I couldn't even make what we really wanted for dinner because it required water!

OK, rant over . . . thanks for putting up with me!

What a nightmare. At least it won't be TOO long until you're back to the 20th century.... I know all too well what it's like to renovate a 100 year old house. PITA but worth it in the end.

Awww. I know that has to suck. What do you do about the toilet flushing? That would be a major issue in my house.

If it makes you feel any better at least once a year our pipes freeze in the winter. I wake up to get ready for work and NO WATER. Teeth are all fuzzy feeling, face looks gross, hair is oily. I am a scary sight at 7am and then have to leave the house with just a baby wipe bath. I feel scuzzy all day and cant wait to get home knowing that DH has fixed it by then. So trust me I feel your pain.

Tuckins ~ You're SOOOO right . . . it is such a PITA! We've already done all of the "dry" rooms, and now we're moving on to the "wet" rooms. Our downstairs bathroom is the first of those, and we'll be doing the kitchen next, and finally the upstairs bathroom. The upstairs bathroom is the one I'm really dreading . . . that's our only full bath (the downstairs bathroom is only a half bath), so we'll be showerless for a couple days at least! I promise you, I will turn into all kinds of a bitch when that happens! I'll try to stay away from PS, for everyone else's safety and well-being!

RQ ~ The toilet is the worst part!!! Of course, it did have water in it when DH turned the water off, so we had one flush. We both went right before dinner and used our one flush! DH thought we'd still have water to the laundry sink in our basement, and he had planned to haul buckets up from there to flush the toilet with. BUT, he miscalculated and we DON'T have water to the laundry sink! So, we've just been holding it since like 6:00 p.m. If things reach critical mass, we do have one of those half whiskey barrel fountains on our front porch, so DH can get a bucket of water from there to flush with. How pathetic is that?!?! LOL! And that sucks about your plumbing freezing in the winter! I would be SO pissed if that happened! Can you use some of that heat tape stuff on the pipes? I don't know if that would help or not . . . I'm a total idiot when it comes to home improvements!

Kaleigh ~ Thanks for the hugs! And you're right . . . it will definitely be worth it! (At least that's what I keep telling myself! LOL!) I've been wanting to remodel this bathroom for SIX YEARS now, and if this is what it takes, then so be it! I'll drive y'all nuts with pics when it's done, I promise!

Very good idea! In hindsight, we really should have done that this time too. But DH was soooo sure we were going to have water to the laundry room sink. HA!

Thanks, Jewel! DH and I are both amazed at how much you take running water for granted, until you don't have it! We're so spoiled!

I totally understand what it means not to have running water. Our house is all electric and we have a well and a septic system. What this means is that when we have a power outage we cannot flush (septic system) and cannot shower/use water ( well ) because they all need electricity to run. I should actually say we have an extremely limited use until septic storage is full and water storage tank is empty. At least we have a generator we can use until power is back and can takes quick showers and flush the toilets.

Any friends kind enough to hose you down? lol

Soocool, that has to be awful! DH and I are planning to sell this house and build a new house on a few acres in the country. I know we'll have well/septic too, and I've been worrying about that! I guess we'll have to get a generator for the new house, since I would HATE being without water everytime the power goes out!

This just happened to us today. We had a storm and it went out at 3:30 and they kept giving time lines and then the time came and went. The last update was that it wouldnt be back on until 4am. Thank goodness it came back on at 8:30.

Sorry about the thread jack. So glad to hear that it is back on. At least now you know to store water like mentioned above for the next "wet" room. Would you be willing to post before and after pics when your renovations are done?
