Well, technically, it''s fraud. You might want to look up p-scope Certified Appraisers in your area and call one of them for advice on how to handle this. In Massachusetts, if someone is perpetrating fraud (this is a classic bait and switch, or just outright misrepresentation), it''s the state attorney general, consumer division, I would call. Don''t know what state you''re in or how it would be handled there.

As for the ring loss, I''m so sorry!! I bet dd feels aweful. Was it not insured? What is your budget? Perhaps the thing to do for now is replace it at the same size (at a good P''scope vendor with a trade up policy), with a nice whitegold halo from Fay Cullen. Then eventually you could go up in size.

I can look for a couple and link them if you''d like. They''re really pretty and not expensive.

Best,
LizzyD

P.S. I would pass on those earings obviously. But like someone said above, Pearlman''s has a Great Deals section on their web site for consignment, previously worn and estate pieces. Perhaps you could find something there?

Hi again,

Wow, there are some incredible stones around 1/2 carat at Whiteflash (so you could always trade up eventually). These are A Cut Aboves, which you can't go wrong with. These are all around $1,100 or $1,200. Just make sure they are eye clean:

There are a couple of ACA's that are bigger (around .7ct, but obviously more expensive) around $2,500:

There's also this one. It's the biggest (@ 0.828ct, I, SI2). $2,735. with the bank wire price. These pictures are really pretty! And the HCA comes out to 1.2 on the HCA. You'd just have to ask if it's eye clean.

ETA: duh, here's the link http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2217/

OK. Now I'm going to go look for settings at Fay Cullen.

Be back soon...

Ok,

Here''s a really pretty pave halo. In white gold it''s only $475. The diamonds are all I, J, so they''s match the I''s and J''s I posted above from WF and GOG. Those warmer colors look so nice in antique settings. They say it''s for a slightly larger stone than what you''re looking at, but they say you can call them and they''ll give you a quote for one that fits your stone.

This one is $625:
http://faycullen.com/ring_mountings/500/21613md.html

This one is beautiful. It''s made (stock, so no custom work required) to fit a .35ct to a .65ct center stone. It''s $935, which is more than the other two, but look at the thumbnail shots. Especially the hand shot. OMG!! So pretty! It''s also set with .53ct of bead set pave, H & I color, SI clarity full cut diamonds arounf the halo, down the shoulders, and around the part that holds the pavillion (what''s that, the gallery?). Here it is:

http://faycullen.com/ring_mountings/500/575626m4d.html

This one''s $585 and would hold your size stone:

This one''s $390 and would also hold your size stone:
http://faycullen.com/ring_mountings/500/575866m1d.html

And I''m only on page 3 of the Ring Mounting selections (out of many more, 6 pages I think)

What do you think? I love these. They''re so beautiful. And with a stone that costs around $1,200 with a setting that''s $400-$900, you''d be spending just about the same amount as on those earings (and with those earings, you''d have spent $2,000 and still have to find a setting).

I''m sure there are lots of other choices out there too. These are my go-to web sites for sure hits. I can buy this stuff sight-unseen and not have to think twice about the quality. Plus, keep in mind that eventual Whiteflash trade up policy. I''m pretty sure you could have Fay Cullen send the setting to WF so they could set the stone for you.

Please let us know if you end up doinf something soon. I''ll be very interested to hear. Good luck.

Best,
LizzyD

P.S. This could become YOUR heirloom that you could created to give down to one of your kids. Heck, at these prices, I''s give my ERing to my daughter and I''d buy a second stone in a simple four or six prong solitaire white gold setting and put it away for my son. But that''s just me. I have three sons, so no passing my ering to a daughter

But, maybe I could have fun buying three stones to put away for my boys. Hmmm...

How did you find that WMW?
JulieN''s post got me thinking hmmmm.. and it was pretty easy to find the copied cert in the database.

BTW, I ran your baby''s photo through the database and the baby scored an Excellent in the Holloway Cute Advisor!

wow lizzy thank you for all the great ideas. The thing is is that I don''t think I want a halo again, and I don''t think upgrading in the future will be an option. That is why I am looking for a bigger stone of lesser quality. I really appreciate all the options but I am going to hold out for something larger than what I had, that is also why I am looking at consignment and estate rings.
WMW- thank you, that is a great compliment about my baby!!! I think he''s pretty cute too!

Meh, that's terrible about the report...

Pearlman's does have some of those earrings in the great deals section...low clarity and color, but it's the right price and size. Maybe you could ask him to pick one stone out for your ring.

hmm Mrssalvo, you think that might work?? I would love to find a pair of earrings for this project because then I could have a pendant made out of the other earring and like lizzy said I would have heirloom(s)!! I know that most diamonds used for earrings are not e-ring quality but you never know. I might call Pearlmans and see what they think. I think the pics they have are stock and wonder what does promotional mean in the description??

I definitely think it might work for you. I''d give Bill a call on monday and tell him your situation and what you are trying to do. He is very honest and will tell you if he thinks one of the earrings would make a nice e-ring stone. I don''t think turning the other into a pendant would be a problem at all. someone else here on PS bought a pair and she was very pleased. please let us know what you find out.

Hi all, I am looking at a pair of 2 cttw earrings, possibly using as a new center stone for a replacement ring and one as a pendant. They are GIA certified and I was wondering if any of you could help me and tell me how these might look as a rin diamond!! Thanks
Always amazed that a Graduate Gemologist would just scribble his or her intials and not reveal their name. Must be hiding from something.

I''m tired of seeing appraisals with scribbled initials. Take responsibility for your work or don''t do the work.
