Hi all, I am looking at a pair of 2 cttw earrings, possibly using as a new center stone for a replacement ring and one as a pendant. They are GIA certified and I was wondering if any of you could help me and tell me how these might look as a rin diamond!! Thanks

hmm can''t get the GIA report on here. I have it on an email, how do I get it on here???

estimated retail value of 2 ct, H VS2 is 4000. Pass.

it''s not a 2 ct it is 2 1ct diamond earrings

yes. even if it were 1 1 ct H VS2 with an estimated retail value of 4K, pass.

save it to your hard drive, make sure it is under 95 KB, then use attach file on the left.

aw you really think so julie! they are being sold really cheap so that should say something, but I need something really cheap to replace my ring with.

ok julie thank you so much. here is one

and the other

Something is wrong. The second report is dated AFTER the appraisal.

hmm julie you are right. i am going to inqiure about that. how do these diamonds look measurement wise though?

The first one is too old to tell, the second one is a no. But I bet the second report was just copied from somewhere...

What's the price?

ETA: actually, I take that back. the first one, which MAY belong to the actual set, does say a lot. overly deep, yucky girdle, and g/g for symm and polish

They are asking $1000.00 for the pair. How can they copy a report, how would I know if it was for that diamond or not? I guess get it appraised myself?

you can copy a report...just go to blue nile or any online vendor and right-click, save.

oh that is shady!!!

I''m trying to get some pics from this seller and have asked what the deal is with the appraisal and report. Not to worry these are not on ebay!!!! What do you think of the price for something like this, they would be nice earring I suppose!

Well, I guss they'd have to give you the second report when you get it and then you could tell if it matched up...

They're very well priced, even if the cut stinks.

That''s what I was thinking too Julie! For that price....... that is the only reason I am looking at them, I know that isn''t really the way we do things around here but I''m in a bind

You should be smelling a big fat rat here!....a GIA graded, even poorly cut H, VS2 at 1ct. will run about $4K EACH at wholesale!!

Hold your nose and run!

minga,
have you considered just purchasing a very well cut stone in the size you can afford now from a PS vendor with an upgrade policy? You''ll have a super sparkler which is going to out perform the poorly cut earring stones by a mile. Then you can also move up in size until you get where you want to be..

MrsS, I would love to do that, but I don''t think DH would be into it, he doesn''t understand! The poorly cut earrings were just one of those things that popped up and I thought might work but I don''t want to get something that belongs in the show me the ugly thread! I do want something decent but most likely used. I have been checking in with coin shops and jewelers that deal in cosignment.

well, i know how hard it is to be patient and wait but that''s what I''d do. Just wait until the right consignment deal comes along. please don''t settle for something poorly cut just to get something now. A couple of the PS vendors also do consignment even though the items might not be listed on their sites. you might check in with some of them too. I think JamesAllen, Goodoldgold both do and I know pearlman''s does as well. You''ll find the right replacement..

aw thanks for the encouragement Mrssalvo, I am trying to be petient, it hard though, I miss my ring SOO much. One thing this seller is offering is to pay half and have them approved and then either return them or keep them and pay the remainder. I think I will pass b/c it does seem they were meant to be earrings and something may not be right with the certs and appraisal (thank you for noticing that julie!) We do have a local coin shop that had some amazing pieces but not what I was looking for so I think I will just keep looking, I know something will come along.

yikes those earrings are scary...

don''t settle..keep looking.

Even the appraisal (not that it's worth anything) looks doctored. Notice how the "printed" information on the document is quite fuzzy yet parts like the appraised value look super clear? It looks like someone blanked out the original information with white bars and then typed in new information.

No go...

Oh my gosh, I can not believe what you guys have discovered! I love you all, you all help SO many people make very informed decisions!
What should I do about this, should I report it to someone so no else is taken for a ride?
Did I mention i love you guys!!!

How did you find that WMW?

Have you thought about doing a colored gem stone for your center stone? Sapphires are the next hardest material next to diamond. They come in all different colors (blue, red, orange, peach, etc). Actually, if you really want something that looks more like a diamond, you could get a white sapphire, like this one:

http://www.acstones.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=9&idproduct=1899

or this stone (don't know how hard it is, but it looks really pretty:

http://www.acstones.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=9&idproduct=1027

You could buy a semi mount with diamond side stones, or buy a white sapphire center stone with garnet or tanzenite sides, the choices are endless.

I came in on the conversation late. What happened to your original ring? What did it look like? What is your budget?

Best,
LizzyD

Hi lizzy, thanks for the suggestions but I really do want another diamond, I am used to having that fire on my hand and want something to pass on to my children (son or daughter, not sure who will get it!)
My original ering was lost about a month and a half ago by DD! It was a .52 RB in a halo with a double row pave'' knife edge shank, it was my dream ring, it was an heirloom, my MILs center diamond and to me totally irreplaceable. VERY pretty! Any how, I want to get something a bit bigger now to make up for the effect the halo created.
Any suggestions on what to say to the earring sale?? I want to confront them with the info WMW found but not sure what to say, or should I just report it to someone, or should I just let it go??
