My mom''s starting chemo tomorrow. She was supposed to have radiation, but they analysed the tumour and it was particularly aggressive so they don''t want to take any chances... She had planned a catered buffet at home for the RD, but I don''t want her to do it anymore because she won''t be feeling well and hosting the dinner at home will be too much stress for her.

So I need to come up with new plans relatively quickly... Any ideas? I really want to do something super casual, so should I just pick a restaurant and make reservations?

Anchor - do you have any family members who would like to help out? Maybe a backyard BBQ at an Aunt''s or grandma''s home? Or what about a local park? Have a friend or family member stop by a local sandwich shop or a place that does catering-to-go and bring the food to a park and everyone "picnic" - that may be too casual - but hey, it''s a thought. I think a backyard BBQ would be an excellent idea if you could find someone to "man the pit" - i''m sure many people would volunteer

PS - Anchor, I hope that your mom is doing well! I wish her, and you, well during chemo!

Thanks Cleo! Unfortunately, my parents are the only people who live in the area where we''re getting married. A catered picnic could be great though, we have some great parks not far from the church. I love that idea! I''d have to call the caterer mom talked to and see what we can do... Maybe we could have the buffet anyway but just somewhere else.

Other suggestions are welcome!

I love the picnic idea too. Otherwise I''d probably just book a restaurant in the area.

Sending best wishes for your mom for her treatment.

Yeah - the picnic idea could work. But if not, I agree with Bee - maybe a restaurant would be the easiest on both you and your mom....

Does the church have a parish hall that you might use?

Unfortunately no, the church doesn''t have a hall. I guess it''ll either be a picnic or restaurant. I''ll talk to my mom and get this done asap! Thanks for the suggestions and well wshes.

Hi Anchor-

I wish your mom all the best. I''m sure she appreciates you wanting to make her life easier! I think at this point, booking a restaurant will probably be the easiest thing for both of you.

Good luck!

If possible, I think booking a restaurant might be the best option, as you won''t have to do anything at all to make it come together. I will keep you and your mom in my thoughts as she goes through chemo.

First off, I am so sorry about your mom. I agree that a restaurant would be best just for simplicities sake. It would be nice to have everything taken care of by the staff.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I''ll start making phone calls to restaurants this weekend.

Positive vibes to your mom, Anchor.
