Can someone please assist me with diamond valuation? I was looking at a 1.47 c Leo Diamond, I color and SI2 clarity. I don''t know anything about the cut, as I am a novice at buying diamonds. I want to buy my wife a larger diamond. I want to get her something in the 1.5 c range but good quality and price. The store is asking around 12.5k for the diamond, which I think is a bit much, although in the store it looked beautiful, much brighter than the other diamonds. I guess I really want to know if the Leo Schachter branding really raises the price/value of the diamond that much? Also, does the addition of the 8 facets on the Leo diamond actually make that much of a difference? The diamond did look brighter to me when compared to other stones. Until yesterday, I didn''t even know that diamonds could be branded. Any assistance would be much appreciated by me, and I know my wife. Thanks in advance.

12.5K is ridiculous. AAAAND, they're cut deeply, so less spread.

How much do you want to spend?

Bearing in mind that I don''t know the first thing about diamonds, I was looking at spending around 10K. I would like something around the 1.5 carat range and good quality. Is that possible? I''ve read some about diamonds but, with the discussions about the Leos and the Hearts on Fire and other branding that has come along, I have gotten somewhat confused.

I would not put my own money into a "Leo" diamond. I don''t think any other dealer would either. It is deeply cut and will not look as large as a better cut diamond and you are not getting added value because of this brand. Stick with a traditionally cut diamond and you will have a much better long term value. I would be happy to explain it to you more fully if you would like to speak to me.

I don''t care for the Leo diamonds. To me, they look "confused" like broken glass.

Do the diamond tutorial here to learn what a fine make (cut) stone is. You can find a non branded diamond with equal if not better proportions w/o the PREMIUM attached to brand.

Best of luck! She''s a lucky lady!

I have had my stunningly beautiful Leo diamond engagement ring and wedding band for one year now and it never ceases to amaze me and anyone who sees it! It is a 2 caret Leo main stone with 3 smaller Leo diamonds on each side. The wedding band has seven leo diamonds. The total weight for the whole set is a little over 5 carets and cost about $18,000. Its'' brilliance is unbelievable and many have said my ring is magical. I get many compliments EVERY day, in the grocery store, at the bank, dining out, EVERYWHERE!! I was even driving down the street the other day and at a red light the people in the car next to me beeped and said, "WOW, What a beautiful ring! Someone must REALLY love you!" My ring is such a joy to wear and see everyday and even better it was given to me by the most romantic man in the world, my loving husband.

PS--Everytime I get a compliment on the ring and my husband hears it, I love the look of pride on his face.

I forgot to mention that my rings are platinum.
