First Off, I''m so glad I came across this website, everyone seems to be very helpful.
I''m looking to purchase a 2ct. round diamond that will be set in platinum, my budget
is 14k. I was looking at some I color SI1 clarity but am a little concerned about the possibility
of the yellow tint showing up. After doing a ton of research, I''m still not sure which are the best parameters to
stay within. (Depth, Table, Girdle & etc. I understand that many 2 cts. give the impression of a smaller stone and I definetely
don''t want that. Living in the Big Apple and shopping on 47th St. & Canal St. has me so confused, it seems like every jeweler has different
answers to my questions. Help!

Blue Eyes,

Don''t worry, consider stretching $4K more and getting an H where you''ll have less concern about a tint, or possibly changing something in your constraints otherwise.

See the link below my signature for general strategies, too.

Welcome to Pricescope!

Regular Guy,

Thanks for the helpful tips. I''ll look into the H color and see what kind of numbers I get.

Kaleigh,

Thanks for the information, I''ll make it a point to pay them both a visit. Thanks again.

Sure Blue eyes...

BTW, Kaleigh is right, Mark is well recommended here, and can probably get this one in for you to look at...it''s a virtual diamond available to a number of vendors at about $1300 above your budget. This was found on the Quick Search database.

And at 1.65 carats, and only $500 above budget based on the pricescope discount, you can find this one, too, with a number of more options floating around that size, too, and below your budget. This one and the first mentioned in the previous note at GOG are found on the search by cut database.

New York''s a great place to be for diamond buying, though this board can direct you to some places that are reliably helpful.

Best,

I recommend focusing on cut as your more important factor, and I have to say, you are probably not going to find a 2 carat ideal cut I SI1 with a report from a reputable lab for $14k. One or two grades of color will probably not make much of a difference either way.

Ideas:

2.13 J SI2 A Cut Above H&A for $13105

2.225 J SI2 A Cut Above H&A for $14116

1.71 I SI1 AGS0 for $12666 scores a 2.0 on the HCA

1.76 H Si1 H&A for $14,500

2.078 I SI2 H&A for $17030

1.71 I VS2 AGS0 for $13527 scores a 0.7 on the HCA

The 1.71 I VS2 has a diameter of 7.75mm. You''re right; you could end up buying a 2 carat I SI1 that fits easily in your budget but which actually has a smaller diameter (7.57) than the 1.71 stone and far, far, far inferior cut.

Just a quick note of Thanks to everyone for their input. I''ll keep everyone posted on my findings this weekend, I''m sure that all of your helpful tips will come in very handy. You guys and girls are great. Thanks again.
