I''ve been married for 23 years, and things are getting a little ratty. I need new towels, bedding, everyday dishes, glasses are all mismatched, not enough lids for the Tupperware, my iron is shot.

Does anyone else think there should be a standard re-showering every ten years or so???

What did you think I meant??

We haven''t even been married 10 years and a lot of our stuff is starting to look a little careworn!

On the other hand, I have some household items that belonged to my great grandmother, and some that belonged to DH''s grandparents. These things are holding up pretty well. It isn''t a re-showering plan we need, it''s a Victorian housewares factory.

I definitely understand... We have been married for 2 1/2 years, and I have already changed a lot of the towels/bath mats/etc... The dishes are all nicked up and I have broken a few glasses/coasters form the set we got for our shower. We could definitely use another one!

BTW- I thought you were talking about remodeling your bathroom!

Hubby and I will celebrate our 15th anniversary next week. Yay! We had a teeny tiny wedding, and I wouldn''t let people buy me gifts. We didn''t really need stuff because we had already been out our own for a few years in our separate apartments and had plenty of stuff. We ate out every night for the first 14 years of our marriage, and now that we have finally started cooking, I need cookware!!!! And dishes, and cookbooks, and all that stuff related to food! Think anyone would go for throwing me a shower since I didn''t have one back then?

We bought our first home after 11 years of marriage and had a housewarming party and got some new stuff. It was fabulous! Next stop, 25 year anniversary party! Maybe that''s what you should do!

LOL! I swear my kids must have thrown my good cutlery (long discontinued of course) out with their school lunches through the years. I even remember finding a good spoon in my daughter''s car! So yeah, I need a new full set of good everyday cutlery. It''s really expensive too! Glasses I''ve changed several times. Dinnerware at least 3 times, but I got smart. Eventually I just bought all white everything, so it *looks* like it all matches anyway. Towels, ugh, the favourite ones are still going strong and yet they are butt ugly. Sheets we actually wear out because I change them so often, so I''m good there.

YMMV. My mileage is 26 years so far...

It''s funny because I told my mom the same thing on my 10th anniversary! And this time, I KNOW what I want and need!!

I''m a little surprised though about how long some of my small appliances failed to last. My grandma had the toaster from her bridal shower until the day she died. Now my mom has it and it works perfectly. I think I''ve gone through 3 toasters in 10 yrs!!

My mom said the same thing when she saw my loot from my showers this past year. I think we SHOULD start a new trend...

Funny you started this thread. I have been married 20 years and within the last 6 months i have:

1. bought new set of Corelle for 12 (square simple lines) for everyday after DH broke another plate (3 in a year).
2. new everyday flatwear for 12 (sick & tired of running out before I have to run the dishwasher). funny i was counting them and it seems I have 11 dinner forks and 13 dessert forks. I will contact the company and see if I can finagle a free dinner fork from them.
3. Just bought a new sheet set (i had a Wamsutta set that I bought about 15 years ago that just never seem to wear out. I sure got my money''s worth)
4. Donated all my old glassware to Purple Heart and bought all new everyday glassware (from the corelle site) including Pilsner glasses (I hate those glass beer mugs)
5. Finally bought a toaster oven (DeLonghi) that really works well. Last 5 didn''t quite last a year (all Black & Decker).

Next I need new mattress pads, towels, and lamps for my bedroom

I completely agree about the modern small appliances and cookware! Things definitely DON''T last like they used to!! We go through a new coffee maker about every two years. And I have several kitchen utensils inherited from my grandmother that I couldn''t live without, but my new stuff..... pfft!

Okay, this has been bothering me for a while now. We got marries 1.5 years ago, and we got all new towels at my showers. I feel like we already need to replace them because they never seem as fresh after one use as I''d expect. It drives me crazy but I don''t want to spend the money to buy a whole new set. Please tell me that I''m not alone in this, and do you have any tips on what to do?

ha-ha, a lot of my friend''s are staring to feel the same way (most have been married about 10 years):-) My brothers and I got my parents new towels and household stuff for their 25 wedding anniversary.

I wish I had a suggestion for you Zoe, but I don''t. My problem includes the towels getting narrower and narrower with each launder because I have to pull off all of the ratty, loose threads! I''m seriously considering the suggestion someone made about having a 25th anniversary party with a wedding shower theme!! Better to replace the linens than replace the husband!

Uppy, our stuff sucks too. I''m *hoping* (*''s are added b/c I''ve been *hoping* since..um yeah, we got married in 2001) JD will replace the tub etc this year. Then my plan is to get rid of our old towels, washcloths etc and get NEW! We got a towel set when we got married and the rest are from my Gramma and ones JD had. They''re ooooold. And they''re raaaattty. You know what I hate? Some of them have like, that band around the top and bottom part, like it''s supposed to be a design or whatever??? The crap shrinks! So I have a towel that''s crinkled up on top and cinched in and then in the middle it''s normal sized, and then the bottom is the same as the top. It truly angers me. I have issues. Many in fact.

One thing I did last month, was ordered a few hand made wash cloths from Etsy..I can''t remember if they''re knit or crocheted..whatever they are I adore them. And I got some flannel dish towels from a different seller to match my kitchen. When we have a little to spare I''ll keep replacing the kitchen wash cloths w/those hand made ones to match the kitchen. And do the same for the bathroom whenever we get that done.

I got me some plans.

Ohh and I want to get all new dishes. SQUARE ones even. I dig square ones. It would be nice not to have 47 different patterns in my dishes.
