I really need some feedback on a princess cut diamond I am considering buying. Is is a 0.87ct F VS2 total depth of 75.9%, Table size of 73.5% medium to slightly thick girdle, polish is excellent, symmetry is very good. What do you think about these specs?

Why is no one willing to give advice on this? Not enough info? I have both the GIA report and a sarin report. I can definately provide more #''s if that would help. I am an amateur in need of some assistence. Anyone????

It is after 10pm on a weekday... give people a little time

I know nothing about princess cuts but I am sure someone will give you advice. Do you have pictures/idealscope?

In short, unless we have a 3D scan, it's impossible to tell by the numbers.

AGS0 princess is your best bet. or Idealscope image

Thanks. I will try and get the idealscope. I am new at this so pardon my ignorance, but what is AGS0?

AGS is a lab that grades diamonds. They give cut grades for rounds and princess (and coming soon are emeralds!). An AGS0 means that it has 0 grades (that is, ideal) for light performance, finish, and proportions (for example, two princesses could have depth of 70% and 80%, and both have ideal light performance, and finish, but the 80% would not have ideal proportions.)

http://www.goodoldgold.com/items/1773/ags.gif is an image of an AGS report for an ideal princess.

This is by far the easiest way to shop for a princess. Online or off.

So your advice is to buy an AGS rated diamond as opposed to a GIA rated diamond because AGS has a better rating scale. Looking at the specs of the diamond I am considering and the report you posted it looks like my potential diamond would not fall into the AGS0 category because the table size and angles apprear to be quite different. Would you agree what that assestment?

Here are the #''s on the diamond I am considering.
0.87 ct F VS2
W:5.10mm
L:5.99mm
Depth 3.87mm 75.9%
Pavilion Depth: 3.02mm 59.2%
Pavilion Angle: 40.3
Crown Height: 0.69mm
Crown Angle: 45.4
Table Size: 3.75mm 73.5%
Girdle: 0.15mm 3.0% (GIA report says medium to slighlty think)
Cutlet off Center: 0.2% (W:0.0%, L:0.70%)
Table Off Center: 0.03mm
Price:$4000

0.87 ct
5.10x5.09x3.87mm

Pavilion Depth: 3.02mm 59.2%
Pavilion Angle: 40.3

Crown Height: 0.69mm I calculate this to be 13.5%
Crown Angle: 45.4

Table Size: 3.75mm 73.5%

Girdle: 0.15mm 3.0% (GIA report says medium to slighlty think)

Cutlet off Center: 0.2% (W:0.0%, L:0.70%)
Table Off Center: 0.03mm

Umm, where's total depth? I calculated 76%

The problem is there are two pavilion angles and two crown angles. And honestly, this stuff with the angles only makes sense to people in the trade in the case of princesses.

Yes, my advice is to buy AGS not because it has a better grading scale (a G VS2 GIA is more or less a G VS2 AGS) but because there is a performance standard. Less headache. Or get an Idealscope.

i agree with julie. get at leaset an idealscope image.

ok, check this out!

.866 E VS2
5.09^2 (there's just something fun about perfect squares)
AGS: light performance-0, proportions-0, finish [polish=ideal, sym=ex]-1 -->AGS1 buuut ex symmetry is sufficient. light performance is what really matters, anyway.

girdle is not very or extremely thin, so that's good for princesses.

nice crown height

no idea why it's listed under "good" cut

for $3375 (savings of 625, that's a nice x-prong setting already, 16%) and going up to E color:

"my potential diamond would not fall into the AGS0 category because the table size and angles apprear to be quite different. Would you agree what that assestment? "

no, there are too many variables/combinations that could work and just because your numbers differ from one AGS0 princess significantly does not mean that yours is not a potential AGS0. however, unless you have a direct method of measuring light performance and not just numbers, it'll be very hard for normal people on pricescope (unless you are a vendor, appraiser, or cutter) to tell you about light performance.
