Hi...I have been lurking for a few weeks and trying to learn everything I need to know about diamonds so I get the diamond I want. My FH and I just started looking for my perfect ring and he has left it up to me to find the stone that I want and then he will have it set in a halo setting from a vendor here on PS. (We live on Long Island so we can go to NYC)

I don't want to sound snobbish but I really would like a larger stone but not sure where I should cut back on....clarity, cut, color or symmetry. I have seen some beautiful K colored stones on PS.

My budget is $6000,00 for the stone. I would like a cushion or an emerald cut.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I just found this on JA Is it horrible?

Yes. That is a horrendously bad EC.

I would stick to K and J colors. VS2 or better clarity. And someone will help you find a decent stone or two to call and put on hold, and ask for ASET images of. ETA: I just checked. JA has nothing for you in those colors and large carat weights in budget. You would be best off calling Mark at ERD and having him dig for you. CALL do not email.

You want performance. A big dead stone on your hand is not going to make anyone, least of all you, happy. A slightly smaller diamond with better performance is going to be much more stunning.

As for big. Your budget is small for truly big.

You might be best off looking for pre-owned rings and being flexible on shape. There are folks that can suggest rings for you like that as well.

Fancy diamonds should be evaluated by Measurements. NOT carat weight. FYI. A 1.2 EC could face up smaller than a 1 carat. So make sure you watch those measurements.

Thank you Gypsy for your honest opinion and quick response.

I am not opposed to pre-owned just not sure where to start looking for one.

Diamondbistro and Loupetroop are where most of us post our stuff for sale.

And we have a pre-loved board: https://www.pricescope.com/forum/preloved-ps-jewels/

Also JBEG has a lot of consignments from PSers. So I'd check on there too.

Ebay is an option. But you'll need help with that.
