I know the whole feather/girdle thing has been addressed before but what about this one specifically

Oh dear! There''s nothing about a VS1 that would worry me. Are you concerned about weakness and chipping? Maybe you need to speak to GOG and ask about it.

yes, i am worried about chipping, but i''d rather not bother jonathon yet. for now, i''m just doing some research to pass on to my boyfriend.

If it''s a VS1 then the feather is likely going to be quite shallow. I wouldn''t think it will weaken the structural integrity of that area of the stone at all. But I''m sure GOG can advise.
