Hey all,
As some of you saw, last week I finally had my ring resized and I am really happy I did. My ring is custom made, semi-tension mount platinum with a 1.12 carat center and two .3 carat sides bezel set. When I originally received the ring the center stone was ever so slightly crooked, but it was not loose and only I (the person who gives Anal new meaning) could have ever noticed the slight crooked slant. Now, almost a year later, the platinumsmith must have had to remove the center stone to size my ring and when it was put back, he corrected the slight crooked angle and the stone is now set completely level. Actually, the table seems just a tad elevated from the original placement.
So, here's my question. How is it possible that my stone looks better? I know it's the same stone. I louped it. While it's moved in the setting, it is my beautiful 60/60 stone, but it's somehow different in a good way. I see the patterns better. It looks better in sunlight (not that it didn't look fine in direct sunlight to begin with). But in moving the tilt and in elevating the stone just a bit in the setting, there is some change and I don't understand what could cause this observation? Now, I'm even happier with my stone, but I don't understand what made it better?
So, Belle, Storm, Alj, Julie, Ellen or any other more scientific PS'ers...........Have I lost my DOCD aflicted mind, or could changing the tilt and height of the diamond in my setting somehow change the apparent visual characteristics of the stone??????
