I keep getting drawn back to this. I think it''s great, very unique and I think it will sparkle in all light. The issue I''m having is it seems it was designed for a round diamond and I want princess. This image is the one WF sent of the princess and I think it looks fine but I read the other thread and most people don''t like the way the princess looks. So, my question is.

1.) Do you like it?
2.) How easy would it be to change to make it work better with a princess cut?

It is a beautiful setting!

To answer your questions ... just my thoughts...

1 - Yes, the setting is lovely.
2 - No idea how easy it would be to make it look good with a princess, however, I suspect that a decent jeweler would be able to whip up something very similar for you to accomodate a princess

I have a question for you ... Why princess? If this setting speaks to you and is made for a round, why not a round diamond then? You may have mentioned this before but I was just curious.

That''s the shape she likes. I would much rather get round but she wants princess...

Gorgeous setting! How about a cut corner princess? I'm sure that would work. It looks like that's what they have in there now - or a radiant, perhaps [it definitely looks llike a cut with parallel sides, not a round, from the pic].

I would also guess that Whiteflash could change the head to accomodate a regular princess cut.

Does she like this ring too? Is she drawn to it as well?

She will be wearing it and it is her tastes and preferences that matter. Yes, it looks a little awkward with a princess as the shank is very rounded and the prongs do NOT accentuate the princess shape, they kind of muffle it.

If she were the one posting here, drawn to the champagne pave ring but wanting a princess stone, I might advise switching out the head/prong region entirely for a more standard V-prong head to accentuate the princess shape. But one would have to really really love the contrast between the rounded shank and the angular center stone and head for this to be considered successful, and I would want to CAD/photoshop mock-ups before ordering it, because it is possible that it would just look disjointed and incoherant stylistically.

Whiteflash does a lot of custom work for pscopers, so if you are thinking of modifying their setting I would talk to them about it before another jeweler.

Last, if your girl has not commented on this setting, I would advise just going a different direction. I happen to love this ring for a bolder, chunkier, rounder look, but I think its the wrong place to start for a princess....

I might be completely wrong, but that looks like an "X-Factor" in the setting. It''s a clipped-corner princess-style stone which might be a great alternative, especially in that setting (which is more rounded in nature, as cara pointed out).

Before buying the X-Factor, do you happen to know WHY your girl likes princesses?

Is it because she likes a square stone? This setting (especially with the clipped-corners of the X-Factor) would defeat the point of getting a princess for that reason. You could still get an X-factor and make it look more square by setting it in something "squarer", for lack of a better word.

Is it because she likes the shattered-glass sparkle pattern of a princess better and it happens to come in a square stone? If so, X-factor sounds good! Though I still happen to think that its straight sides doesn''t look quite right in that deliciously rounded, bubbly pave ring. I might try asking whiteflash to modify the head, especially the U-prongs, for an X-factor, similar to the above suggestion for the traditional princess.

Is it because she likes the word "princess"? If so, well, then please get her a big ole princess stone and put some pink surprise diamonds somewhere in the setting for good measure.

Found this setting as well ... It is style number EM524 ... Click here

Don''t know if it works for you, however, I came across it and thought I would share.

Also, although the ring does not have a Princess cut center stone, if you are looking for a visual of what sapphires might look like if you chose to place them as the sidestones, style number EM514SA, might give you a better idea.

Let us know how it goes.
