I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

My husband is in NJ for a bit. Tonight he went to an Italian restaurant and he said it had a dark vibe. He looked on yelp and it stated that it was "mafia friendly". Apparently that is a searchable category. WTH?

I don’t know why but that struck me as hilarious! Assuming your husband is fine and all.
 
I asked my 14yo son to take out the garbage.

Me: It’s garbage day today, I need you to take out the garbage from both kitchens and all three bathrooms (we finished off our basement like a rental until, just in case we ever needed extra income, but he uses it - lucky kid, lol)

<hand son new garage bag, son goes down stairs>

5, 10, 15 minutes go by….
I can hear lots of garbage falling on the floor ….

Yea, you guessed it :lol:
It took everything in me to not intervene lol

Son: I don’t know how you do that so fast.

Me: What do you mean? <me trying to keep a straight face, failing miserably lol>

Son: Holding the bag open while dumping the garbage in. It went all over the floor and then I had to pick that up!

Me: Ohhh, yea, that sounds hard. You could always try just pulling the bag out, tying it and putting the new one in.
<completely unable to control my facial expression at this point :lol-2: )

Son: (Short pause) ohhhh… yea


We have so much ground to cover in 4 years :lol-2::lol-2::lol-2:

I did not know Yelp still existed, but I do know mafia is very much still a thing. :/

Years ago my ex who was connected (so was his sister, a teacher) told me if I didn’t leave Chicago he’d have me you know what’d. I didn’t hesitate to leave after that. I used to giggle about La familia but not after that. They were and are absolutely very serious.

At least he told me about it right away. He visited Chernobyl without telling me for years. He had a mishap with Russian police, and he was accidentally driven to a gang leader's house by a taxi driver. He gets in binds all over the world.

It’s been a bit of a weird day. My ex - the good one, not the recent one, reached out a little while ago.

For context, we were together for years, talked (and designed) a ring, and then split up in early 2022 because he was firmly childfree and I definitely want children. When we got together we were both fence sitters, but over time it evolved to a point where we realised that we couldn’t be truly happy together. He is a lovely person though, and I’ll always wish him the very best.

Anyway, I went on to eventually date a guy (the recent ex) who cheated on me and got engaged to his affair partner within months of meeting her. I’ve been dealing with that for a while now, getting over it (not a hundred percent over, but doing my best to get there).

Well, my first ex heard about what happened and reached out to see how I’m doing. He moved to Canada a while ago, so he’s literally on the opposite side of the world from me. We’ve been speaking a little, I think with a firm understanding that we will not get back together, but speaking nonetheless. He also had a relatively recent breakup, though a less serious relationship than mine. And today he told me that sometimes he wishes we had just stayed together. I told him that that’s nostalgia talking and he agreed with me. But I get it, sometimes I’ve thought that too. But it would be a terrible idea, one that I’m not considering.

Just a little conflicting emotion I guess.

I hate when that happens. It's so easy to fall back into familiar patterns when one feels like one is adrift at sea whether it's about a relationship or any other glitch life throws our way. However, you aren't adrift, you are firmly planted on stable soil working your way through an emotionally difficult time with self-awareness and grace. Perhaps your conflicting emotions will solidify as the two of you continue to speak and a long distance friendship may emerge.

This made me choke up actually. Thank you for saying this.

I deliberately don’t want to fall back into a relationship with him (and perhaps the old me would’ve done that) but I know that’s just going to be further heartbreak down the road. Plus, the whole long distance thing. But honestly even if he lived next door to me it would not work. I know that and I don’t want to let either of us lie to ourselves.

I’d be happy with a version of a friendship, but not a super close one. There lies disaster, I reckon.
 
HI:

Twice this week I shopped my closet! Found a Zella shirt at the bottom of my t shirt drawer, I didn't recall buying. Great activewear, wore it cycling today. And also found a gorgeous tank top at the bottom of my tank top drawer--I bought in Maui from a local artist--and my gold 24K beads looked fabu with it!!!!! Happy camper!

The hardest part of my new job is drawing pictures for the lunch menu :cool2:

Best of all, no nights, no weekends and I have the same vacations and days off as our youngest son. Proof that sometimes good things come out of crap situations.

@stracci2000, I really do! Although it’s been an adjustment going from a job where you were expected to work 120mph to one where you’re working at maybe 30mph :lol:

The people are great though, it’s just a whole different vibe.

@Calliecake, thanks, me too! I didn’t realize how bad my previous job was for my mental health until I left. The cows got a lot of attention from the kids, little things make them so happy.

Thank you friend, it has really been a wonderful turn of events finding a new job and working with kids, things I would have never anticipated a year ago. Things are looking up!

I hope all is well with you too. I was just admiring your spinel engagement ring in another thread, a favorite of mine here on PS.

It is our 40th Anniversary today. Early this AM, we received an unexpected (and very generous gift) from our neighbour. It was a lot of excitement for 0800 in the AM!!! I am speechless--and that is a feat if you knew me--and I don't know how to thank her.

A Lovely day we had, to her!
