What kind of Pony, DF? I grew up with horses, I used to go to a riding camp (Camp Strawderman- hahahah) we have a few horses at our farm, they are somewhere at the tune of +16 hands, so no ponies. We currently have Cabby, our Sorrel, Finally, our Palomino, and Marquie who is just a regular old bay. I miss riding, a lot. I can't find a decent place to ride English out here, it would be a dream come true if I could. NO LIE.

PL- I understand, LOL. At least you are gone from there.

No offense but I just have never had luck with Arabians, LOL. Bumpiest trot EVER. LOL, those little legs, I guess. Although, some of the most amazing rocking horse canter...that is great, no lie. LOL, mine are all broken and pretty much all green now. They are temperamental and are known for bucking and throwing their heads. They don't really like to listen and are not a fan of anyone that is heavy with hands. LOL.

Oh trust me, I feel ya. It took a long time for me to get my old man down to a "pleasure" jog/trot. He holds it to this day though! He once was described as "Having his own unique way of going" and I should just "let him do his thing". I was also asked if he was gaited. Nope. He just trots like a camel.

So, here goes- vent and quite a spell out to follow- sorry for the length, in advance.

My friend broke up with her live in- he was cheating. I was living alone and was going to school so I thought that we could live together and split rent, win/win. I offered that to her, she took it. We moved in together at the end of May into a 2 bdrm in my complex. She started dating a guy in June and pretty much disappeared. No worries, that is best kind of roommate to have, one that pays bills but isn't there, right? LOL. She ended up losing her job in September, it was horrible. I felt really bad for her and still do. Thing is, she has a boyfriend who she moved in with, that owns his house free and clear- she was very excited because now she didn't have to worry about rent...except, we have an apartment that we still have 8 months left on the lease.

So we talk about it and I weigh out the options. To break our lease it would be around 4k total, no go, we both didn't want that. The other option was that I could move, again, back into a 1 bedroom apartment. With that comes, deposit, paying AGAIN to transfer electric, cable, blah blah blah. So we are talking an expense to me that I wasn't expecting to have to make,esp. right before a big trip to Australia and finals...

I make a deal with her- I tell her to pay me out $1500.00- less than half of the breaking the lease fee and I will let her pay through the end of the year, this will make her free and clear of her duties with the place and I will have some time to figure out what I am going to do. (mind you, that is only 2 months rent). She agrees. I move into my 1 bdrm this past weekend and end up having to clean the entire apartment, top to bottom because she moved all her stuff but didn't end up cleaning at all, no biggie, I don't mind I just do it. At the end of it all she still owes me $600.00- She says that she is going to pay me in Dec. No worries.

Now she is telling me that it is ridiculous for me to expect that she should pay since I moved, she was only going to pay if I were staying in the more expensive place. She said that she spoke with the apartment complex and this is what she messaged me 'I talked to courtney in the office and by the lease she said that I had paid enough and I don't owe anything. she said that we don't live there and I am clear and don't owe anything else and neither of us were penalized in anyway she said i paid enough and not to worry about next month. So, the agreement was off after you decided to move into another apartment that would be cheaper. ANYWHO, I love you and hope you understand'

Am I in the wrong here? I mean, if I am, please let me know- I just feel like A) We made a deal and I was left with the majority of the burden B) All the bills were in my name, stupid now, I know, but I had signed contracts for the length of our lease with the cable and the electricity. Cable being more of the issue as we had 3 boxes and I am stuck paying a couple hundred dollars a month alone C) How would the complex be able to tell her what she owes me vs. what we agreed upon? Yeah, she is paid up in terms of our apartment we left but I still had a deal with her regarding the pay out for the change up.

I just needed to vent, sorry if I am coming across as horrible, I just feel like I am being taken advantage of a bit and it makes me angry.

Straw-this is my opinion.

A deal is a deal. If she agreed to pay a certain amount and you moved based on that agreement then she needs to pay up. I don't know the legal POV (at all) but in my eyes, she owes you the rest of the money.

At the same time, getting into money issues with friends never works out well. If you either want to get this whole issue over with or don't want to risk losing the friendship, then I would add up all of the extra costs you incurred to move and have her pay for that. If it comes out to less than $1,500 then take it. If it's more then hold her up to the $1,500.

I personally would go after the $1,500 but I also know how much it sucks to deal with money and other people.

I am just completely flabbergasted. I feel horrible but I know, I KNOW, I did nothing wrong- I have been NOTHING but over accommodating for her. She tends to be one of those people that when you fight with her she says things to hurt the other person, I don't fight like that. I try to lay out all facts and find the middle ground or at least where the conversation went to a mis communication.

Strawderman, I can see your situation from both points of view. Since it is her money, I think she deserves to know how it is spent. At the same time, you have a right to expect her to compensate you for all the out-of-pocket expenses incurred by you due to her reneging her end of the lease. If I were you, I would make an excel spreadsheet with all the costs you incurred: cable, cleaning service (even if you did it yourself) etc. Add it up and tell her that this is where the $$ are going.

FWIW, my brother lived with me for a while and my father supported his expenses. I kept a spreadsheet of all the expenses and I never felt badly if my father asked me about a certain month's costs - it's only fair he knows how his money is being spent (he only asked me once for a breakdown for a particularly expensive month, and he felt horrible asking. But I assured him I had no problem doing so, and infact, had the breakdown for the entire year if he would like to interest himself in them).

No, you're not wrong. As fiery said, a deal is a deal. She made a deal with you and has an obligation to fulfill her end even though she decided to split early and move in with her boyfriend. It's not fair of her to expect you to stay in the more expensive place when you moved there for the sole purpose of living with her.

That said, I'm sorry you're going through this. It must be awful when you consider the other person a close friend.

These type of misspellings drive me NUTS. Have you ever looked at a Craigslist posting for jewelry for sale? I sometimes look at them simply for entertainment value. So many words misspelled, used inappropriately, crappy photos, and sob stories. It's like a car wreck of words and photos.
