is this possible in the future?

It will only be possible with stones from a pre set window of time - probably like 6 months from the date of first new report issue etc.

I suspect the original submitting account would need to resubmit the stone - this might be a problem since stones are sometimes traded a few times and the dealers are not renowned for being bothered to give ''service''.

that''s a stupid rule. why does GIA care who''s the current owner.i''m not talking about a free service.

My guess would be that you could have it recerted for full price with the new report format.. Anything else would be a bonus..
yeah but....to recert i would need to take it out of the setting,if they have all the infor on file they should able to issue the new cert without the stone.

I have had a PM from someone who asked the question.

They will accept the new owner so long as they send the report back - even consumers - so that is good.
They will likely only be charging a small handling fee.

Also relevant to what I posted somewhere else - i think if a stone has a level of appearance performance or proportions or whatever - but inferior sym or polish - then it will be downgraded for its ''craftsmanship'' if the Finish grade is 2 grades lower.

eg Ex top grade will be downgraded to 2nd top if either Sym or polish was Good. this is far more lenient than AGs who I think are being a little pedantic and this will prove very difficult for them with Princess and other fancy cut symmetry grades.

that sounds like good news.at least we have a choice if i wanted a cert with more information about the stone.

GIA has produced a wall chart with photos of their future gradings...

It costs about $19.00 and its rather nice.... but I still am of the opinion that if you''re going to submit the stone for regrading, you strongly consider AGS....as the information provided will be a lot more detailed.

While GIA will report a cut grade, I doubt they''ll report what issues they considered for your particular stone.

I am not totally sure of what the new document from AGS will include... Probably best to sit still for the moment until each lab issues more information about it.

I will soon have the AGS grading software which I will be particpating in offering commment to them in preparation for the final version to be introduced in January.

I will also have an ASET here too probably some time in June.

i don''t want to take the stone out of the setting for a regrade.i thought if i send GIA my old cert they would issue a new one since they have the sarin on file.

Roc would that be the same fold out chart in the G&G article Fall 2004?

DF - I just recieved my Loupe - the GIA Alumni magazine and it had a summary of info from Tuscon AGA talkfest.—Once they start to issue the new reports, current owners of diamonds with old reports will be able to request new ones. You will not need to return the diamond - just return the old papaer.
There will be a fixed time frame in which GIA will go back (in other words, 6 months, 12 months, etc) - but that has not been declared yet - I guess that decision will be based on a number of factors - technical and political. So, for you dancing fire, it will depend on whether or not your stone fits into that window.

Gary

It probably is, but the wall chart is probably a little larger so the images are a little more easily seen and its laminated.
